Conversely, unless the shooter was within inches of the truck, if they were .45, they bullets would exit the barrel and hit the dirt within a foot or two muzzle.

With the .40 being so Short & Weak and all, it probably wouldn't have chipped the paint, much less penetrated. Obviously the holes were made with a .45 ACP rather than a 10mm, otherwise they would have been blown outward by the subsequent explosions.

By the way, doesn't the hole pattern kind of resemble the Big Dipper (inverted)?
