xephael has only 2 posts to his name and both are derogatory remarks about Bohica. Sounds like someone is intentionally trying to sabotage a reputation. Rival company?

What the hell, I asked a simple question! I wanted to know if Chris was associated with Hesse/Vulcan/Blackthorne Arms... I made a comment about the tooling marks and alignment of the barrel to the fore grip. I'm not trying to sabotage his reputation, but he is from Minnesota which is the same state those aforementioned companies are from. I did some reading on the FCSA forums and it doesn't seem like he is associated with them, so I hope he's successful. Either way, it would be nice to get a definitive answer.

As far as tooling marks go, can a firearm function fine with them? Sure... but it can function fine or better without them. The tooling marks didn't concern me much compared to the foregrips apparent misalignment.

I didn't think I was completely unfounded in my observations:

The observation that the handguard is canted is valid, it dose look pretty off in that photo, it was your accusatory tone that I disagreed with. If it helps at all the foregrip is free floated. Nothing touches the barrel after it leaves the receiver.

The barrel of my Anschutz 2013 is not perfectly centered in the handguard. If the barrel is free floated, such a thing doesn't matter, and when trying to make something more affordable, such things that don't matter can be rough.

this is great
a 50 fo a 1000 + a bit
really nice looking gun
i purchased a dpms single shot lower a while
back with a 50 in mind
looked at the LRS "2 year wait"
ferett "12 months and big deposit"
and both almost $23-2400 maybe more
talked with chris this am
he is good to talk with and very helpful
im on the list for a gun in july 08 hopefuly
im new to 50's so if i ask a uninformed question that is exactly why "uninformed"- im not new to reloading or wild cats etc just new to the 50 bmg -so advice etc will be apprecied im presently gathering brass-have 300 cases now
all late 05 and 06 lcc once fired
i supposed 50 pulled or surplus ball is
ok when sized- how about a press
is the ammomaster 2 ok for this
or is there a beter way
also dies - pocket tools - trimers etc
powder measure seems to be a problem
i have read a lot and there is a lot
of information out there but as a new
50 shooter what is the advised route
without buying stuff just to replace in a year
or so i dont plan competition with this gun
just another big bore to play with

The rail is sloped so a regular scope can be used to hit targets at 1000+ yards. Most scopes don't have enough MOA for that distance.

I am not sure I understand the sloped rail concept, but all I had meant by my comment was that I could understand why someone would comment about the handguards. I personally don't have an issue with it as its just one photo.

A sloped rail changes the angle of scope downward so the rifle will be elevated upward. This is done because most scopes on a level rail don't have enough MOA adjustment for a 1000+ yard target. Basically it compensates for severe bullet drop experienced at long distances.

Got my 24" on tuesday, but due to my work schedule was unable to open it till last night. Man that upper is a beast. Mounted it to my lower and worked it with snap cap.

Was disappointed that my Ace recoil pad and cheek rest was not with my upper. I was under the impression that there were ready. Going to call Chris monday and find out when they are going to ship.

Went to mount my scope and found out my high rings were not high enough, for the scope to clear the rail.:cuss::cuss::cuss:

Looks like Midway usa is going to get a order tommorrow.

Will post some pics soon.

Glad to hear you finally got it. Yeah, those uppers are beasts. My 30" Bohica is taller than any of my other rifles (43 1/2") and that's WITHOUT the lower receiver! Don't hold your breath on the recoil pads. I've been waiting for months when they were suppose to be ready in a couple of weeks. I'm surprised the high rings weren't high enough. I had planned on getting medium Warner Maxima rings as suggested by Chris, but maybe I should go with high ones. I'm also considering getting a scope with a bit longer eye relief so this won't happen:

As you can see from my pics, I have my scope mounted FAR forward

I was traveling this week when my BOHICA FAR-50 Mk II .50 BMG upper arrived on Tuesday. However, with Good Friday off, I figured I could assemble the rifle, go through some familiarization and sneak off to zero it at the range in the afternoon.

First, I've changed the set up from what I originally intended. Instead of a Magpul PRS stock, I used an A2 stock and filled the stock cavity with a competition lead weight, adding 4 lbs to the rifle. I have a DPMS lower and kept the stock trigger because it was (surprisingly) crisp. A Wolff extra power hammer spring will make sure military primers are ignited but also leaves me with a 9 lb pull weight...I added an EZPull device which cuts the pull to about 4 or 5 lbs. I put a plastic dust cover/plug in the mag well and removed the buffer, spring and bolt hold lever since this is a dedicated lower. I have a Burris Tactical 3-9x scope to begin with. Burris Tactical 6-screw mounts.

First, impressions. Overall, the improvements the company made seem good. The muzzle brake looks like it will be much more effective (similar to an AR50 brake). Reasonably good metal and polymer work but not perfect. The spring loaded bipod works really nicely. It took a bit of fiddling to get the upper on the lower. The rear pin didn't want to go in, but the more I work it, the easier it is to assemble. The bolt wouldn't cock the hammer when I first tried, however, I found a burr on the cam and 5 swiped with a fine file and now it works fine. All in all, it is very good workmanship for the price (about 1/2 of what others want for a .50).

Next...it is a BEAST.

With a 24 lb upper and the weight I put in the stock, it tops 30 lbs on the scale.

Here's the obligatory muzzle shot...that's a big hole.

Finally, as another way to get a sense of scale of the thing, here's a comparison of a 16" M4-gery, a 24" 6.5 Grendel and the BOHICA.

So...how about the range report? My intent was to get the rifle zeroed and at least a little shooting to test basic accuracy and function with military ball ammo. I was also going to have some videos posted. Unfortunately, Mother Nature decided to dump on the Chicago with a early spring snowstorm that shut down our range.

Maybe next weekend.

hmmmm..... very interesting indeed, I'm saving up for one myself, told a buddy of mine about it, he started drooling instantly. My thinking in regards to that pic with the barrel being off center in the handguards. I don't care about the handguards themselves, but the rail looks centered on the handguards, thus the rail would be off center in relationship to the barrel, which could be an issue. Now I realize that this could simply be a result of the angle of the pic taken. Also the pic of the upper without the handguards looked pretty sweet.

I have a Burris Fullfield II in 4.5X-14X-42mm that i plan to mount on it. I bought a cheaper set of high Leupold rings that are not high enough for it. Probally should have not went cheap on the rings in the first place. Plan on order a set of Leupold mark 4 extra high for them.

group buy for lower..

Check out Bohica Arms forum classifieds. So far there is 29. I am spreading the word. :)

I'm not clear on why anyone gets a .50 under 29 inches?

It sort of defeats the purpose of .50 to use short barrels. It's too big to be a carbine, and is designed for, IIRC, a 36" barrel.

But if I can get at least 29" I like it.

24" is all that will fit in my gun cabinet without breaking the rifle down or modifying the cabinet. I really ain't worried about shooting out past a 1000yds, so much as I am about blasting stuff within a 1000yds. I think I'll be fine.

My prepared lower:

A Bushy varminter with 2 stage trigger, high power trigger spring, weighted stock and modified 5 round plastic mag. I used Daisy steel bb's to weight the stock and mag, and I made them be still with parafin wax poured through them.

I sealed the mag with 2 part epoxy and the stock 'spacer' that it had in it.

Just need to modify the hammer, and find somewhere to shoot api 300+ yards and I'll be good to go!

I used to have good access to the material at my last job, working for "Tungsten Products". Now I work for Nucor Steel, as if that had anything to do with my purchasing a pack of bb's from Wal-mart.

I got my upper the first of the month. However i am waiting for the ace cheek pad and recoil pad to come. I put the scope on loosely to try the fit, but am wating for the reoil pad to come so i can mount it in the right spot. I figure the 1" pad may change where i want to mount the scope.

So i guess i wait to try her out. I did find a local gun club that has a 600 yard range, but am changing jobs, so no extra money to join right now anyways.

Does anyone know if the May uppers have shipped? It hit the CCard two weeks ago, and I have not gotten a visit from the brown truck of happiness.

Thanks,
