Boker strike plus on sale at blade ops

If the Mini Strike had been available when I bought my Kalashnikov auto, I wouldn't have bought the Kalashnikov. I'm very happy with that knife nonetheless, and the D2 didn't grow any rust despite being in my pocket all through a hot, sweaty Phoenix summer.

You're basically paying $20 extra for the CPM-S30V steel in the <2" blade, the AUS-8 versions are selling for $35. For $39 you can get it with a D2 blade.
That's all true. I have other knives with AUS-8 and D2 blades, and I wanted to try and have a knife with CPM-S30V. When I found it on sale the other day, I jumped. And I shared the link. My EDC is a 2" knife since I mainly use it to open and break down boxes. In the past I've freaked out others in the office when I opened a 4 inch blade.

And well worth it for some users. Compared to D2, S30V has equal toughness, better edge retention, and higher corrosion resistance.

Boker or BladeOps? I wonder if the work BladeOps does makes Boker not want to touch them?
I'm pretty sure Boker USA (or someone they contract) does the conversions here in the US. Multiple retailers sell the Boker Plus autos, and I doubt they're all doing the conversions themselves.

I'm certain that Boker doesn't convert these or any of their offshore produced knives to auto. They got into quite a lot of trouble a couple of decades ago with the Top Lock/Speed Locks and learned a painful lesson. Retailers, OTOH, avoid the whole Customs pain having them done or doing them.

Emailed Boker about a week ago. Nothing back. I might see if I can call them.

With all due respect, I've been involved in the switchblade industry since 1985. Boker, and any other manufacturer, will not admit to converting imported knives into autos by just dropping a spring in because it violates Customs to bring in "readily convertible" knives. The only thing that they can do to avoid violating the law is to bring in knives that require a machining operation to machine a spring well. This is established back from the first time that Boker brought in springless Speed Locks in Top Lock boxes and dropped springs in for sale as Speed Locks. Then Customs fell on them for the "readily convertible" aspect of just dropping springs in and brought an end to that dodge. Boker then switched to bringing in German made Top Locks which didn't have the spring well until Customs was satisfied, but clever machine shops started selling jigs to others to use end mills to to machine the spring well in the Top Locks. I was one of the people dropping springs in them before and after Customs threatened them. After a couple of years Boker started bringing in the Brazil manufactured Top Locks because the only difference with the Brazilian Speed locks was whether the coil spring was added or not. They didn't convert them, but plenty of dealers went back to dropping coil springs into Top Locks. Me as well, but by then the Microtechs and Daltons were going strong.

Today, Manufacturers don't need to risk getting into trouble with Customs because manufacturing of autos in the US is so common (thanks to Knife Rights).

Apparently I have one on the way also. Hope I like it. A little bigger maybe than my usual EDC clip knife.

Looks more like a R4 tractor loader tire.
