Looking for a .22 LR rimfire bolt action rifle for plinking and small game I want one with iron (probably plastic, in my price range) sights and scope mountable, I'm interested in the Savages arms 70200 (b series f).

If anyone here has any experience with this series, I would be obliged to hear about your thoughts on the b series, I'm not interested in the FV, and haven't been able to find any reviews on the F.

So is it a GO or NOGO !

I've got a Savage B series (fv sr) model that will consistently print 1/2 inch groups at 50 yards and 1 inch groups or less at 100.

I think the only B series that comes with iron sights is the G model which also has a hardwood instead of composite stock. I've been lusting after one for awhile but I've other spaces to fill in my collection.

Is this what you're looking at.

Yeah, that's the one, trying to keep in the $300.00 plus tax range. I have one spotted on the shelve a the local Bass Pro for $299.99 may pull the go switch on this one.

I've met three or four other people with various models of the B series and by all accounts they're all great shooters. With CCI Standard Velocity and good wind conditions they're MOA all day. With Eley Target or Club grade ammo they're capable of 1/2 MOA or better.

I say go for it.

One of my friends bought a Savage Mark II F a couple of years ago to train his grandson in the fundamentals. The darn thing shoots like a house afire. He paid around $250 brand new for it.

Hmmm, I have the Mark II TR and it will do five shots sub .5 at 50 yards.
W SK match.
Heavy w a 18X scope.
I consider that tolerable but not exactly combusting of the domicile.

No doubt my calibration of what ignites a house is different from Hookeye’s :). Personally I consider any $250 .22 that’ll shoot under 1MOA to be worthy of arson. Hell, it’s hard to find any functional firearm for that money these days, more so for one that can actually shoot. I have a couple of .22 rifles that’ll half that group size but they cost almost ten times as much; diminishing returns are a beach. Anyway, my point was that if sheer value and low budget are goals, the MKII F would be worthy of a look (as evidenced by my one data point, so harbor that consideration).

I'm super happy with my Ruger American. It has a very easy to see green fiber optic front and the back flips down for scope clearance. I purchased it a few years ago, it was right at 300 out the door back then. Screenshot_20250221-191809_Gallery.jpg
