Bond Arms Stinger: Thoughts?

Out of the short barrels such as 2.5 inch the 9 mm might be the most practical for self-defense. Due to high pressure and no cycling/cylinder gap, apparently it still does pretty well out of the short barrels, while still having manageable recoil. In contrast, the .357 for example out of my 3 inch barrel is brutal with recoil, and tests show the .38 special going pretty slow such as in the 600-700 FPS range. I assume that the recoil issue is similar for the more powerful big bore calibers with the 2.5 or 3 inch barrels.

It is not that 9mm is bad in the platform. I simply prefer a wadcutter (and can load it for the short barrel) if it doesn't expand and snake shot loads (which are not common in 9mm). Plus, I can do 230gr 38's if I want heavy. For me, the 38 just scratches the itch a bit better.

As you know, they stopped making the full sized BA .22 LR derringers, which is why I'm still waiting for you to sell me yours.
Perhaps we can discuss that in the future. Maybe the second Tuesday of next week or the 30th of February. :D

What I would like to see most of all is a dual caliber barrel set. .22 (LR or WMR) over .45/.410.
Why? Just because.

Yes, that's true. When I put my .357/.38 barrel on my BA, wadcutters are my preference. Probably sufficient, and most HP aren't going to expand anyways. The only reason my 2.5 inch 9mm barrel is on most often is in case I want to actually carry it on seldom occasion, it is smaller than the 3 inch barrel. I also have the extended grip, which not only makes it look far nicer but provides a better grip. But, the combo of a 3 inch barrel + extended grip changes the category of firearm size, versus my 3 inch barrel + flush rubber grips.

i own a bunch of b.a. derringers and barrels. i would only consider the stinger if offered in 22lr, 32 acp or long, or just maybe 38sp (loaded with wadcutters or short colts). 380acp might work but in any case would want grips that fully cover the backstrap.

Mine is not "painful" to shoot even with the thinner of the two supplied grips on it. (It isn't what I would call pleasant, either). Oversize grips would certainly make it shoot better but one of the advantages of the stinger over the defender/Roughneck is how much thinner it is. Oversize grips would negate that.

BTW, if anyone really wants a .22 LR barrel for a Roughneck or defender I noticed yesterday that there's a 2 1/2" matte finish for sale on Ebay at a ridiculous price. (the current bid is $395.00). https://www.ebay.com/itm/185407222128?hash=item2b2b21b170:g:TO0AAOSwLNRibEVQ

Incidentally, I just ordered some .38 short colts

Right, the .22 Lr barrels bid for way too much. I’ve seen them bidding for up to $500. I don’t want them that bad.

Is 38+p special a shoot able option for the new Stinger?
I would want to keep it small with small grips.
I don't know why it wouldn't be from an engineering standpoint. It's lower pressure than 9mm. I would expect recoil to be closer to that of the 9mm than the .380 though. I'm not sure recoil should be all that much of a consideration though for defensive carry. On the range is another matter. Even then, let's face it, shooting something on the wild side once in a while has a certain appeal. As long as I know it isn't going to actually injure me I'm good with it.

i run 38 short colts in a s&w 642. i like softer recoil equaling greater accuracy. i’m not a big game guide or cop so 38 short colts are fine by me.

autodidactic, may i ask, where did you order and how much? thanks.
Nice how do they shoot? That’s what I bought them for: collecting, and, my 642. I want a low recoil option. I got them from Milwal Corporation for far too much. SC is almost unobtainable

i bought some magtech 38 cbc shorts online awhile ago after a rural gunshop guy turned me onto them for softer shooting out of an airweight. i’m unsure about “one shot stops” with 38 shorts but i can attest to consistent “first and followup center mass hits.”
One thing a popular youtuber pointed out, was that .38 Short Colt is more powerful than .22 LR, .25 ACP, etc out of a pocket pistol, centerfire, and larger caliber, yet low recoil. An oft overlooked option for those seeking low recoil carry options.

It was not easy to get these..

I had a notion to get their Cowboy Defender in .45/.410. My goal was to put the ivory grips on it that Bond still lists on their website, and get the cute western style holster they also sell for it. But both of those products are discontinued and I emailed Bond asking why they were still on the site and they seemed disinterested. I lost momentum and they lost a customer.

You can probably get both on Gunbroker, EBay, etc

The 2 1/2 inch barrel on Ebay went for just shy of $500.00. The 3" polished looks like it will likely go for about the same. Crazy.

Yeah, those haven't been available for quite a while. I've had mine for probably 15 years or so. Don't let an incompetent webmaster turn you off to a high quality, unique product. There are some exotic aftermarket grips for sale on Ebay that are cheaper than the BA Ivory.

Update on the 380 Stinger:

After about 50 rounds through my new 380 Stinger I started having light primer strikes with the lower barrel. I noticed wear on the lower firing pin and it seemed like the lower portion of the hammer head was not long enough to fully strike the lower firing pin.

I contacted Bond and they replaced the lower firing pin and hammer, and they paid shipping both ways. The whole process took about three weeks. Due to recent surgeries it will be a while until I get to the range to try out the revamped Stinger.

As a first-time Bond owner I am impressed with their excellent customer service. Something to consider if a potential Stinger owner is on the fence about purchasing one.
