SabbathWolf- LoL!

I'm certainly amateur, but I love photos and guns!

It might be distracting, but I like using my US Flag Bandana as a background :D

I also like using my leather ottoman when I want more of a simple background

a clean kitchen (or best lit room) floor works well too, but seems less 'classy'

Ideally, I'd like to take my gun por-.... pics, outside in good daylight with a nice outdoory background, but I couldn't get away with that in my neighborhood, it'd just end up being a headache :banghead:, can't wait to move!

I find getting the lighting right is the hardest part. Natural, sunlight is best but when forced to shoot indoors you have shadows, etc. No flash of course but finding the best natural indoor light is tough. Any suggestions?

For lighting I have two floor lamps with triple independent swiveling lamps. I can aim each one to either give direct lighting with harsh shadows, or bounce the light off the white ceiling /walls for a far more indirect lighting. Make sure you get the ones that have solid cones, not the white ones that let light out to the sides - wrecks the whole idea. :) They're cheap, and you can get them used at swap meets or second hand stores. Wanna be weird? use a car window shade as a light reflector. ;)
For small items, you can build a light box, lots of ideas on the 'net for those.

Lighting is everything

All of these were taken in natural light, it is often a matter of just waiting for the right time. An overcast day, or the right time of day or night.

not boudoir unless camping out

I take my photos outside in indirect light on overcast days...varied backgrounds. I usually take about 10 pics and maybe end up with a half way good out of those about 40% of the time.

If you are shooting indoors with a flash bounce the flash off the ceiling and somewhat behind you....that turns the sharp flash into big diffused light...same as if you were shooting outdoors in overcast weather. Big soft diffused light.

in a pinch, lay out your 'set' on in a white bath tub, then shoot down on it with flash- the 'bounce' from the bright curved surfaces will make for nice even lighting, rivaling pro setups.

From the "boudoir" (actually the nightstand)

Plain white background with a little editing to highlight some shadows

Just play around with the pictures, backgrounds, lighting, etc.

What a great response and thanks to you all, I was wondering what happened to your post NavyLCDR,

so many super shots, and jungle, love that knife, (and the plane n' chart shots too :D)

...can I add, who do you use to store your pics?

Number one goof I see is using a flash. Diffuse lighting is essential for good shots.

And number two, black firearms suck all the light out the room, making them especially challanging to get really good shots. For me personally, it's far easier to get great shots of stainless or other non-black finishes.

Thanks, nice tools, Steve, as an aside, which color ramp works better for you?

Oh, ps, do the photos need to be public on "the 'bucket"

...My great-aunt's trusty re-finished :D
