So I was perusing the ammunition at Wal-Mart about midnight tonight, and saw an assortment of cheap scopes, and saw one that was exactly what I'm looking for. A 2-7x32mm scope made by Center Point optics. It was $65, looked pretty sturdy, had an illuminated reticle and came w/ metal mounting rings and flip-up lens covers. SWEET. I figure what the hell, if it sucks I can return it within 90 days no problem.

The only problem is, the mounting rings that it came with are "low profile". It won't fit over my folded Troy rear sight, and when I move it forward in front of the rear sight, all I see is the front sight post.

Should I try to find higher rings, or get a riser? Is there a standard height for AR15 scope rings to clear the sights? It needs to go up at least 1/2", maybe 5/8".

Unlike most other rifle designs, ARs don't drop on the comb, the top of the stock. Regardless of objective diameter extra high rings are recommended so the center of the scope (the exit pupil) is aligned with the height of your eye (your pupil) above the stock. If extra high rings aren't available risers with high rings usually work equally well.

Hi Rings

Hi,
You might check back at the WalMart for the hi see thru rings. They are pretty high and could doe the job. Find another scope like yours in the store and see how much higher the see thru rings would raise it up. I have done that on occasion only the other way when the scope did not have rings visible or appeared too high.
