They finally made them they way I always wanted 'em! Brought her home and decided to use the failing light for a photo session.

    (dummy rounds for effect)

Congrats. I think I'm going to pick one of those up at the show next weekend. The original never did anything for me, but the classic handguards tug at my heartstrings...

    Why bother with dummy rounds?

this may be a little off-topic but why is it OK for Sig to sell these here while they can't sell the 550/551/552?

So how is the 556 legal then? Made in USA right? Why didn't they just start making the 55x-series domestically? Seems easier than designing and tooling for a new rifle.

Well, there are at least two governments involved in the process. You obviously have some misconception that government bureaucracy is easier to deal with then some computers and machining.

Hey look!!! boricua9mm bought a new gun! Congrats!

Well the Sig 556 looks close enough to a 55x, I suppose I wouldn't mind owning one. I like it. :)

As previously mentioned, the Swiss rifles are banned from import. Now I am not an expert on these rifles, but I do have the luxury of attending the industry trade shows and getting to talk with the staff of various manufacturers, for better or for worse (sometimes you'll even get BS from these people). From everything I heard back during the 556's development, the story is that SAN refused to license the design to SIGArms. SIGArms had to design the rifle with enough deviation from the original that it would not be considered a clone. SIGArms took the opportunity to adapt the firearm to the sensibilities of American shooters, which resulted in the first SIG556 which looked like the all too familiar AR15.

It seems to me that SIGArms did not have any choice in the matter. They had to make the rifle their own somehow. Whether or not that is still the case today, I can't say for sure. I'm just glad they're making them they way they SHOULD HAVE BEEN SINCE DAY 1!!

Ah that makes perfect sense. I might have to check one of these out, a local shop has a ton of these in stock.

Personally, I'm happy that the 556 doesn't use proprietary Sig mags.

Never understand why they didn't do this day one.

It's the reason I never looked at one before.

    Very nice!
