So i bought this today and i am a TOTAL NEWB.

    https://danieldefense.com/review/product/list/id/1/category/3/

Previous experience only consists of shooting my Sig 229 and Kimber series 1 at 7 to 15 yards where i am descent enough.

At 50 yards my vision is so bad i am guessing where to shoot more than aiming, i managed to put 25 rds into a 4inch group after 4 tries but it was low and to the left, and again i couldnt see.

I need a scope system. My brother has an ecotech but im not sending that kind of dough on top of what this thing costs..but i do NEED something.

Again, im a total newb but i shopped these on Amazon as i do like the red dot and flip to side magnifier system my brother has.

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004HIJCZK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005UGINUS/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

I wear glasses and even with those on, its a struggle. I can see well enough out of his ecotech but havent fired it so im in the dark in more ways then one.

Would i be better off skipping the red dot/magnifier combo and just getting a scope with my vision issues?

Thoughts welcome and thanks! This was more of an investment then any illusions in me using this thing other than the occassional range fun and the ever feared SHTF scenario.

    Thanks again.

Great gun choice: That's the same AR I have. I hope you didn't get gouged by sellers due to the increase in demand recently.

You get what you pay for when it comes to optics, so I'd really stay away form that UTG stuff. Save up and get something good eventually. The EoTech 512 can be had for $270-$300 or so on Ebay last I checked. They're a great lower-priced optic for ARs, although the Trijicons are are unbelievably fine optics (but they'd be too expensive I suppose at ~$800-$1000).

So anyways, I'd probably say regardless of what you get, don't get a cheap competitor- get something that will last (either a decent low-power scope or an EoTech).

Thought i would post a pic, sorry for cutting off the supressor.

Would the same be true for the sightmark stuff? (on being not worth it?)

Excellent rifle! I love my DD too.

Have you thought about getting special shooting prescription glasses? I don't know what correction you need but for irons you might want that front sight in focus. With a RDS your normal distance glasses would make more sense.

I have a Vortex Sparc on my DD and it's a great RDS for $199.00 at Primary Arms plus free shipping. It's a great mid priced RD. Good pick on your rifle. Enjoy.

I ran a Nikon M223 1-4x on my AR for a couple of years and was really happy with it. LaRue Tacticle makes a rock solid quick release mount but it is not cheap. I have replaced the Nikon with an ACOG.

I don't have a Daniel Defense rifle, although I did recently re-barrel an AR-15 that I already have with an 18" strength to weight contour 1/7 cold hammer forged Daniel Defense barrel. Seems to be a very good barrel so far, very pleased with it.

It is my understanding that DD makes barrels for the HK 416 as well, so their barrel making process and quality control must be first class. Say what you want about HK, they don't usually cut corners.

instead of focusing on an optic , have a friend or instructor show you the proper way to shoot a rifle and align your sign pictures. A scope may help out but if your fundementals are flawed the scope can only help you so much. Again, if you can have a buddy experienced in rifle shooting and or formally trained it would be a good place to start

Technique isnt the problem, i have very good technique and usually out shoot the "military" and "police" and even some "swat" (i guess i didnt need to put swat in quotations there.....)......

My problem is my vision, its poor. You cant shoot what you cant see....

Im thinking ill put a permanent scope on it and just mount a red dot some where since i wont have any way to aim it up close (not that im thinking ill ever have to...)

I have the same problem with my eyes. Red dots just give me two blurry dots. Not much use.

I mounted a 3-9x scope on my AR. Cranked down to 3x gives me a wide field of view, fast target acquisition, and a clear picture. With both eyes open you'll see everything instantly. If your target is less than ten feet away you don't even need to aim if you shoulder your gun properly.

Up the magnification and now you have a rifle that can easily hit targets out to 500 yards. Just find the right ammo that will allow you to shoot MOA groups.

I would do what the others are stating, don't buy a 1500+ rifle and then put a 200 dollar scope on it. Save up and buy a quality scope Acogs are great scopes they are 4x magnifier. Or if your eyes are the issue go get laser surgery or glasses.

I am just stunned how you can say that you shoot better than SWAt or military and you cant see past 25 feet.

(To answer your question though, don´t put a piece of crap optic on a high-end AR15, it´s just not worth it. Save up some money for a decent product instead)

So you can't see the target at 50 yds with you're "normal" (with corrective lenses if you wear them, else uncorrected sight if you don't)? Or when you focus on the front sight, you can't make out the target at 50 yds? Or both? Each is a different problem with a different solution.

It's your rifle, do what you want, but if you can drop $1400+ on a top tier rifle, why the heck would you put a $200 POS optic? Pay an extra $200-$300 and put a good optic on it.

I have not been able to clearly see my 25 yard targets in 20 years.

I have no problem *identifying* the center of my target and focusing on my front sight.

Very very rarely have i been out shot even by the "pros" shooting next to me (many were LE/Military").

Of course in the last 3 years my eyes have tanked and i haven't even tried (hope that clears that part up). :)

I ended up finally putting a set of crimson trace lasers on my Sig so i could shoot from the hipf if needed and also because my stigmatism impacts my dept perception with using the rear and front sites on target. Rapid firing using front sites only i am as good as i alway was at 25 yards or less...

Rifle wise, i am a total newb. (sorry for the confusion).

One eye is better than the other.

At 25 yards i dont have too much issue. At 50 yards i cant evel tell which part of the target is the inner circle (black or orange) area and which part of the target is the outer area........ie, cant see it at all (and STILL MANAGED A 4 inch group with 25 rounds my FIRST TIME shooting the rifle @ 50 yards with iron sites. ;) ).

Edit: I thought i was hitting reply with quote.....

I took everyones advice and bought an Ecotech exps2-0 and a 3x magnifier with a swing arm from Primary Arms.

A little plug for the guys at Primary Arms, they are as good and as helpful and as fast as everyone says they are.

I also plan on getting a straight Nikon P-223 3x32 Matte BDC Carbine Scope for it.

Ecotech is already on order along with a boat load of pmags on back order, ill get the scope in the spring.

Thanks everyone for their advice and constructive criticism about my inconsistent information above!

Everyone good with that plan or should i have gone with an Acog w 4x magnification? lol ;)
