Braced Pistol stamp Watch Thread

Nice, I'm looking forward to getting the brace off of my PC Charger. I like your stock adapter.

Optics Planet had a blow out sale of those heavy duty steel Midwest Machine folding Pic adapters for $73 with no tube ECT. I had a Sig folding brace I was gonna use black silicone to glue the flaps together and pin it from rotating, but this is a better way. Maybe I can sell the good Sig Folding Brace

Second of two submitted on 3/29 was approved 6/6. First one was approved on 5/16.

This one signed by Patricia Borowczyk (hard to read the last name, but that is a somewhat common Polish name).

I officially hit day 90, and still counting on two of the three. Submitted 2/8 (self e-file). At this rate, my paper form 4 will come back before these do. The tin-foil side of me wonders if they are waiting till after the end of the month, come up with some BS reason not to approve then say sorry, open registration is closed.
.

I had one kicked back with a disapproval after 44 days, which makes it six weeks after submission on April 18. The disapproval arrived at 6:06 am June 1, six hours and six minutes after the deadline. No option for going back on the eform1 to fix the issue as tax exempt. Got my US Senator involved in this, my view is anyone who tried to comply with this questionable crap rule should be allowed to finish it under the amnesty conditions since this was forced on us. I truly suspect the ATF sat on it till after it was too late as one pistol I registered on May 21 was approved in three days. This is all very random and unprofessional the way this travesty is being handled. Needless to say the brace has been removed and is way off the property until this is resolved.

gopguy; I think you can still submit it; it should, in the disapproval, tell you to reference your previous application....at least mine did. Although my disapproval was before the deadline and I resubmitted right away....

51 days approved today for the PC Charger.

No approval on the AR pistol yet and it was submitted first. They have the same ATF control numbers.

I'm at 78 days on the three that I submitted now. I really wished that the website gave some sort of update as to where in the process they were at.

Closing the loop on this. My 2nd and last braced pistol was approved today on day 53.

ATF agent's signature on both were different but both illegible.

I submitted four Form 1(s). I'll try to leave as much detail as possible.
  1. Submitted all four on May 31, 2023 as an "individual" via eFile. I filed on my own via the website to avoid wasting $200 going the SilenceCo, so I filled out the forms on the ATF's website by myself.
  2. I included a photo of the markings on the receiver only, i.e, model, caliber, serial number), on two submissions only. I didn't supply them any pictures of the firearms on the other two submissions.
  3. One went to "PENDING RESEARCH" and the rest "SUBMITTED/IN PROCESS" still on May 31st. I didn't submit a photo for the "PENDING RESEARCH" firearm. It went into the RESEARCH status because the firearm wasn't already listed in the drop down menu, so I had to manually typed it in.
  4. Paper prints that were done by my local police department for $35 for 6 fingerprint cards via their computer system. Prints were received by ATF exactly 10 business days and 15 full days later on June 14, 2023.

FYI....the models that appear in the drop down menu aren't ATF's models, not even suggestions, just model names entered by other applicants. You could type in "JoeBiden-15" and if enough other applicants use that name it will appear as a model on the drop down.

Simply choosing one of the model names from the drop down is a huge mistake. You MUST accurately show the model name of your firearm. This means exactly as it appears on your firearm. Picking a model because its a close match may lead to disapproval of your form.

The way it's been explained is the models in the drop down menu are models the ATF previously did "research" on thus the "PENDING RESEARCH" status won't be triggered for the Form 1 application. If the model from the drop down menu matches what's on the firearm, you're good to go, of the option isn't there for your specific firearm, you have to put it in manually and wait for the ATF to research and confirm.

Who told you that?
ATF Ask The Experts told me not to use the drop down.

It's from numerous sources online, and based on my personal experience thus far, it has panned out.

If what you were going to manually type in anyway is already in the drop down menu, you can select it. There will not be a delay. If you manually type in your item info, it will trigger a delay. It will immediately go into "PENDING RESEARCH" status. You will have to wait weeks for the "research" to be done and verified. Your cover sheet will not be sent and the 10 business day countdown to receive paper prints will not start until the ATF researches and verifies your information. You will then be put into the "SUBMITTED/IN PROCESS" stage after everything has been verified.

When use use the drop down menu, it will bypass the "research" stage and go straight to "SUBMITTED/IN PROCESS" stage.

All 3 of mine that were submitted on 3/27 came back approved on 6/16. 82 days.

Also I'll note that they were all filed under my trust.

I submitted the day after you. With luck, one day soon mine will come in.

Hopefully so. I did find it a bit odd that the email notification was sent between 0402 and 0409 central time, I didn't know government employees worked at 0500 outside the military.

It's probably some automated system

Has anyone seen any released statistics about how many form1's BATFE has received?

That question had occurred to me as well. With wildly different estimates of how many braced pistols are out there (somewhere between 3-40 million) it would be interesting to know what percentage of owners decided to go the SBR route. Now that the grace period has closed it should be straightforward enough for the BATFE to supply that information (would it take a FOIA request?). Finding out how many of those have been approved would be a little more difficult.

Ah, googling brings up this dated June 2: https://thereload.com/atf-says-a-quarter-million-guns-registered-under-pistol-brace-rule/ which says approximately 250,000 submitted.

"That puts the registration rate for pistol-brace-equipped guns at between 0.6 percent and eight percent.

Longnecker noted that owners of the affected guns could also comply with the rule by either dismantling the firearms and destroying the braces or turning them over to the ATF. He said the agency does not know how many Americans may have taken those routes."

Mine was submitted 05/09/2023 and approved 06/16/2023 by Amanda Thomas, 38 days, so obviously they are still processing them. No doubt there was a large influx at the deadline.

Five weeks, not too bad. That's about where I am, I waited until mid-May looking to see if there was any action taken prior to June. I assumed there's a backlog near the deadline as well. We will see,
