Bragging Friend talks too much

We all know or have a friend that likes to be the center of attention. I have a high school friend like this.
Me and a few others were at his house having a grill out over the weekend. He started talking about how much ammo and reloading supplies he had and wanted to know what we all had.
I'm one of these types my wife don't even know that info. But he began to brag about all his stuff, and of course he had to show us.
He said he's ready for the apocalypse. Go to his man cave, he busts out about 60k of assorted ammo.
I counted about 8k 9mm, 20k 22lr, about 4k of 12ga and was able to see 10k of 223, the rest was buried in other ammo cans.
He had about 10k in primers and looked to be 20 1lb cans of assorted powder. I'll say I was impressed. I for one think that's quite the stash. But to show that off is a huge Red Flag in my book.Whats funny is a friend asked too see in his safes. He said that was private

10k primers ain't much to be frank so yeah I agree with ya on that. And 20lbs of assorted powder? Heck I've got 12 pounds of just H1000!

Well, he does have a lot of ammo. I've come across 20 pounds of powder, though, simply misplaced and forgotten.

If it was about the money I wouldn’t have any guns, loading equipment, or components! But it’s not for me. Take a guess.

I'm in the camp that even my wife doesn't know what I have in ammo or guns.
There are maybe a couple friends or relatives who like guns and have been to my house enough times to get an idea, but I don't brag and no one gets to see inside my safes.

This... He's sharing with close friends something he's interested in and proud of. As his friend in a SHTF situation, you would have to rob him because he'd likely would share if asked.

You kind of went on an internet forum to brag to the world about what a friend shared in private which I think is worse.

I'm in the camp that I don't tell anyone what all I have because others have big mouths. Like exes of mine and my wife who would freely share information about what I have and that I carry with her friends, family, and associates whenever the topic of firearms randomly popped up in conversations. I had to ask her to not do that anymore on a few occasions. Even still, if it's someone I trust and know will keep things private, why not share especially if we both have the same hobby?

I don't really see any issue with the dude wanting to show off his stuff. Its his stuff to do with what he likes, including using it as a conversation piece lol.

I have some friends who come over and ill show them the newest "thing" ive picked up, even a couple who are welcome to poke thru my stuff and take home whatever they want. I bum stuff from them too.

I dont ask anyone what THEY have tho, if they want to share that information thats their choice......

20 1 pounders? Psssh. He has a lot of catching up to do if he wants to hang with the big boys

No, in the great scheme of things, that's really not that much ammo (or powder). But in this day and age, this climate, no one outside your mate (or those in your household) should even have a clue as to what exactly you have.

I am starting to actively dislike the folks who ostentatiously display what they have. And as far as survival items, firearms and ammo, you're simply stupid if others outside your household know what you've got.

If he has the cash to own it and store it and it is safe and legal - good for him. My take is he's showing it to brag a bit to friends, but - who else are you gonna ever show something like that? He trusted you and that group, so that says something too. Maybe he'll end up selling it on gunbroker in a few years for a huge profit. Not sure if it would really concern me at face value, would have to be there to read the room. Sounds like he is just a bit of a show off, who was showing off?

He has more than I do. Of course, I was only able to really start loading to store less than 2 years ago. A few people know where SOME of my stuff is. The wife and Da Boy know where ALL of it is. That's all. Outside the family, nobody knows everything I have, but some things I did reviews on video due to contractual obligations.

Not me. Wife has 4 CC permits and her own gun safe. She's a big supporter of my reloading habit.

I don't talk about that stuff with many people. One good friend, who is also a reloader, and I will talk reloading around the campfire. But I'm pretty quiet about that stuff. But, to each their own.
