Brand New Prices vs Pawn Prices...

Our local pawn shops are chocked full of guns. I have never seen so many guns in one place as one shop has. Try to barter with them and you find out why. I asked the man at the counter why the gun was priced so high and he was not willing to haggle, he blamed the price of gas.

Did he look you directly in the eye when he said that? They'll do that. It's not against the law to enunciate and projet properly.. nevermind.

Right place right time with cash money!!

Actually, I've found that a lot of pawn shops will go lower on the price if you put the gun on layaway. All the ones around here have a forfeiture clause that basically means you lose any payments made if you are late - so they like layaways as often times they get the item back plus whatever money was paid.

A lot of times I'll put an item on layaway for the lower price . . . . then come by later the next day and pay off the item ;).

Of course prices are high, his job is to work the price up, your job is to work it down! If he start's low doesn't leave him any room to haggle.

All the pawn shops I've been into for the last 20+ years want retail+ for used guns... or most anything else for that matter. I don't have the time nor the patience to keep going back until they finally come off the price. When I did try the savings wasn't enough to buy an as-is gun. Why do I go to pawn shops these days? I buy used DVD movies because those are actually priced well... they're overrun with them.

Our local pawnshop has some good deals and some ones not so good.

I have purchased 2 rifles and one shotgun from them.

$300 for an excellent condition 336 with a nice scope

$325 for a very good Norinco sks, that had a gunsmith trigger job, like new bore, and perfect wood.

$280 for a 870, very good condition

Not the best absolute prices on each, but no ffl fee and no shipping charges

I think i had a good deals on each.

I actually sold the marlin, and made a nice profit.

I also check the holsters as well. He had the deluxe crossbreed supertuck for $10

They are SO easy to reform to any pistol, so i bought it.

He now has a Ruger SP101 in 357 in what looks to be 2.5 inch barrel
That is very nice for $350.

I may get that one ....... Just trying to determine if i really need it.

Have a great pawn shop in my area. Here are some of the examples I got from them last year. All prices are TOTAL OUT THE DOOR.

Ruger Single Six Stainless $225
Ruger Blackhawk blued 357/9mm $329
Ruger Vaquero (old model) Stainless $400
Makarov 380 $199

Pawn shop finds in the last ten years: Colt Series 80 38 Super LNIB- $440, Remington 870 Wingmaster, 90%-$135, Rem. 870 Express, 95%, $110, and there were others....most of these were bought for less than 75% of the marked price. There were some I passed up, too. Colt Cobra, lucky to make 55% they wanted $600, Savage 24V, 357/20 with cracked stock, broken forend spring and missing top firing pin, $375.
Look 'em over carrefully, make the offer, and don't be ashamed to walk.

When buying anything, you need to take emotions out of the equation. Once emotions set in, they will begin to control your decisions whether it be a car, gun, or TV. But life wouldn't be very much fun if all decisions lacked the emotion component.

Oh that is such a nice Colt Diamondback. Haven't seen one of those in years. I want it. I want it.

I love pawn shops and have scored some good deals there. Last month found a like new Browning BDA .380 for $400. Saw the same model gun, same condition sell later in the month at Cabelas for $650.

Late last month found a like new S&W 910 and bargained the cost down to $300. There's good deals out there if you are patient and do your homework.
