brass markings on slide

How do you get rid of these markings? they are near the ejection port, and they are brass colored.. they are "brass scratches" and they are hard as hell to remove from the black "tenifer" like finish of my p99.

Fine ,0000 steel wool and oil .If that doesn't work just forget it.

A rag, a little CLP and some elbow grease is all I've ever needed to use to get the brass streaks off. But if you're having trouble with some really stubborn ones, I'd suggest you use Birchwood Casey's "Brass Black". I used it a few times on my FAL receiver when I didn't have time to scrub the marks off. It doesn't remove the brass, just darkens it to blend in with the finish.

I`d stay away from abrasives. Try a mild copper removing cleaner like Hoppes Bench rest, Butches, ect and let it set and work a while before scrubbing with a nylon brush or patch. Brass is mostly copper and the cleaner will remove it eventually.
