Is there any difference between the CLP and LP other than CLP containing a cleaning agent? I've heard LP offers better protection / lubrication than CLP.

Yeah thats probably true but I only use breakfree and have had no problems. I wouldnt recomend it for long term storage, I shoot all my guns all the time so I get away with it, but if I was going to store a gun till next season I'd use regular old oil. Also throw some anti rust chips in the safe that would help. Why do you ask anyway?

LP means its primarily a lubricant and preservative. C means it cleans. CLP does both.

For long-term storage, either ought to work.

There may be better products that do all three, but CLP is pretty darned good, and more than sufficient for my needs.

In tests I've seen, the CLP provides better corrosion protection than the LP.

I suspect the "C" allows it to penetrate and coat better and then evaporates.

Where did you see the tests? Is there a sight you can point me to? Thanks

Thanks for the link. Interesting...I never would have guessed that CLP would be a better preservative than LP. This is exactly what I was looking for. I already bought a bottle of the LP so I'll probably use it as lubricant on the rails and so forth after cleaning with CLP.

Like so many others, I have used Break Free for years.

CLP is a general purpose lubricant that can also be used as a carbon cleaning agent.
It is still issued to anybody who wants it in all branches of the armed forces.

LP is a lubricant and protective agent.
It too is used by all branches of the armed forces and available.
LP is primarily a lubricant and it is used on all type of things that need lubrication and protection against corrosion but that do not tend to build up large volumes of carbon deposits that need to be made easy to clean away.
Items such as chairs, drawer channels, door hinges, etc.

Do you understand the difference between the two products now?

By the way, after many years of Break Free, I now use a product called M-Pro7 CLP.
Technology rears it's ugly head and time marches on and this stuff is even better than Break Free.

Yes, I have a better idea now...thanks. From everything I've heard and read so far, CLP is the way to go.
