I never cry when I hit my thumb with a hammer. Never cried at my wedding. Never cried at my twin girls' birth.

One of my girls (they're 6 now) just came in and asked to play with my Lynch's #102 box call. I told her to be careful, that it was going to be turkey season soon and that I was going to need it.

She takes it carefully and walks of into her room with it, squaking the woods together like fingers scratching a chalkboard. Moments later, I hear a gobbler call from her room. ???? Huh? I hear it again, then again...

The little girl comes back to my office and says, "Daddy, doesn't this sound like a turkey?" She then hangs the call upside-down and gives the call a quick jerk. From the call I hear the prettiest gobble I've heard since I watched an HS Strut instructional video two years ago. I agree with her that it sounds like a turkey. She asks if she could go with me to "kill a turkey" next time I go. She explains that I can use my "sticks" (meaning one of my slate calls) and she can make more turkey sounds with the wood box.

"Sure, why not, " says the father as he turns toward his computer monitor to hold back the swell in his throat and hide the tear in his eye...



Proud pappa. Raise'm right, and you might get to be like me some day...

my daughter walked in on me a couple of weeks ago while i had my 22-250 torn down for cleaning. i got done, put it back together, and replaced it in the cradle. she bent down, and peered through the leupold for a minute, being careful to not touch it. she moved her head back and forth a bit, then got back up and looked at the gun for a moment, thinking about it. then she turns to me and says, "daddy, i want this one. can i have it?"

'bout did me in. the gun will be hers when she gets mature enough to handle it...though, i must admit, i'm gonna miss it - it is probably the prettiest gun i have (walnut stock)...

Be careful about givin them guns to the kids. I have 2 kids that are totally into helping me with the guns and all sorts of gun chores. I can't resist the big eyes and them asking daddy which one they can have either. Between the two (and the wife I bought a couple for LOL) I am down to 3 guns of my own Hoping the wife forgets which are hers is helpless, so I guess I need to buy more......

My 5 year old sits in my lap and watches huntin shows with me...with her tiny little finger she points at the critters and shoots them. "Daddy, when can I go with you and kill some animals?". Oh how I wish a PETA person could hear that just once, the memory would last a life time!

I can relate, mt 5 1/2 yr old daughter like to walk around with my calls around her neck and blow em. Amazing how she call blow a duck call, better than some of my hunting buddies. I have never been able to figure out their retardation with calls? A damn sick moose sounds more like a duck than a couple these guys on a good day! ROFL




She also get's a kick out my crow call but the one she really likes give hell to is my wounded rabbit predator call. LOL She won't blow it outside though, only in the house? I said, baby, take daddy's call outside and blow it. She say's, uhnt uh. I said, why sweetie? She say's to me, while giving me a look like i am not using my mind, uhh daaad, a coyote might get me. ROFL

I am really looking forward to the time my son asks to go me hunting, fishing, hiking and camping. Since he is only seven month old I know it will be a while.
