I bought a new pistol with a limited lifetime warranty stating that it's free from defects in material and workmanship. I had it only a week and shot 80 rd through it. I saw that it had a hole in the feed ramp all the way through to the recoil spring. Looks like they either drilled the recoil spring housing too deeply or they didn't harden the steel correctly. I contacted the manufacturer and she said to send it in. I sent it with the warranty card filled out and a sales receipt copy. They responded a week later saying they got it and that's the last that I've heard from them. It's been in their hands for 3 weeks now and I've sent them two emails in that time that went unanswered.

What next?

I haven't named the manufacturer yet. I won't start a war just yet.

Wait at least another week, then try this.
Send a certified letter to MFG. with a copy to the BBB in your area and their's. Also the Chamber of Commerce on their end.
The more people that know of their lack of response, the better.

Sounds like a Taurus... We were told we would have had to pay shipping both ways for our gun, and we could find the address on the webpage. I'm buying Ruger next time.

Hello the camp! You're forgetting the Feds--ATF, FCC (if internet related), and anything else you can think of -- USPS if you used a mo, for example. I had a situation that drug too long, until I sent another memo, registered, receipt requested, with ATF cc'd. It was a bluff, but it worked. Had my piece back in 2 wks, good as it was supposed to be. My .02. mm

The current Feds don't like guns or business, I'll bet that they really hate gun businesses. Interesting but dirty sounding bluff card. I did mail it USPS Priority BTW, beware the mail cops.

If I was still married I'd sic the old lady on em. She loved this kind of stuff. Me, I'm all argued out.

Oh no.

It is not legal to ship a handgun via USPS, unless YOU are an FFL. Must use a common carrier (UPS, FedEx...)

Doesn't sound like Taurus from my experience. I sent them a 450 that would not lock up correctly, had it back in 10 days, no problem. Only paid shipping to them. This was about 4 months ago.

3 weeks is not long, in 1979, the only time I ever went back to a manufacture, it took 9 months to resolve a workmanship/material issue. After that experience, I take it on myself to make it right. With shipping costs what they are, most problems can be resolved by less than an hour of bench time and that's cheaper than shipping one way. Try the dealer you bought it from, sometimes the dealer will help.

I work at a gun shop and we tell people the rule of thumb is don't call us asking about your gun until its past the 12 week mark. Imagine how many guns a major manufacturer gets a day they have quite a backlog. Be patient 3 weeks is nothing.

For those flaming Taurus, please read my experiences.

I have a PT99 that I have shot 30,000+ rounds through. The barrel lug has failed twice. Both times I have contacted Taurus, shipped the firearm by UPS and had the repaired weapon back within ten (10) days. On one occasion the weapon would not shoot straight after the repair and I returned it again. The re-barreled it and again I had it within ten days.

I was so happy with their service that when I was looking for a compact .40 I purchased a PT940.

no offense intended. but I have owned a lot of guns, non of which have ever needed three trips back to the manufacturer for repair, and especially not twice for one problem. So reguardless of how fast they got my gun back to me, I would never go back to that manufacturer for a product again.

one problem is a fluke, three is a pattern
