Broken slide

I wonder if it the same spot broke on other 97 slides? If so, that suggests that there's a stress point that should have been thicker (for strength), change in metallurgy (for ductile) or different heat treatment? Wish I knew some engineering.

I had an Excam BTA-90 ( Italian copy of the CZ-75 compact. Now goes by EAA. Pistol made by Tanfoglio.)
It broke COMPLETELY at the exact same place! Importer rep told me it wasn’t uncommon. Heat treat issue.... Mine had the hard chrome finish.
I sent it to them and they fitted a new barrel, slide, and did a complementary trigger job. Return shipping, too. New slide had an integral sight rib the length of the slide.

I’d send it to CZ and let them replace the slide. It’s a manufacturing/design flaw, so it’s their baby!
They even honored the warranty on an Armscorp Turkish made (Huglu) 20ga s/s that I sent back for doubling. Took 11mos, but they honored the warranty by sending me a NEW GUN!

CZ had taken over the importation of the shotgun. Now it’s called a Golden Pheasant.

This is a machinist’s job, not just a gunsmith. And very labor intensive. I doubt you’ll find someone who wants to take it on. Cost prohibitive. They would have to charge you too much so it not worth it.

As a retired machinist/tool and die maker, I would not take this job on if the person planned on shooting the pistol afterwards. Yes I have welded up hardened tool steel before and it is very time consuming.

Normally we would have to anneal (soften) the metal. Once that is done then the crack has to be addressed which usually means stop drilling it. Then one would weld up the crack. Once the weld is done then the slide would have to be heat treated and tempered again. And if you heat the slide up or cool it down too fast during the heat treat and temper process it will warp.

Yeah, CGW gets their slides from CZ USA and CZ customer service looked at the slide and said they don't have any new slides, and won't warranty a whole gun as I had the 1911 bushing conversion done. Buy several CZ firearms and this is their answer, despite the break not being my fault.
