Hey guys, after sort of kind of looking around for a new gun and having basically decided to get a revolver, I went a whole new direction and picked up a brand new Stoeger Cougar 8040FT from Academy Sports.

After holding it in my hand I knew that I wanted it,but I had my significant other with me and I needed to double check with her before buying it. We walked around and talked for about five minutes and she told me to stop trying to sell her on the pistol and just buy it.

My camera battery is dead now but I will post pics after I charge it. Anyways I paid $399 plus tax for it and felt it was a good deal! And the whole process only took about 20 or 30 minutes!

    That is a good deal.

I've heard really good things about them, especially the rotating barrel. Something to the effect of helping accuracy.

Plus, you got it in .40, a cartridge that isn't horrible to acquire these days. Congrats!

    ...but pics or you're fibbing.

Well it being chambered in .40 was a plus for me because I already have a M&P 40. Most of the ammo was sold out and you can only buy one box per caliber so it made sense to get a gun that works with ammo I already have at home. Next time I'm out I can pick up some more ammo.

And I am excited to fire it and see how accurate it is with the rotating barrel.

I believe the rotating barrel effects felt recoil as well.

congrats! I have a Beretta Mini Cougar 8045. I almost bought a Stoger as well. I decided to get the M&P Compact instead at the time. I already had the M&P Pro and they can use the same mags.

    You will love it
it is the SAME exact gun, built on the SAME equipment, by some of the same guys (or at least trained by the same guys) who built the SAME gun under the Beretta line (cougar/8000 line)

just in a lower rent country, it's pleasant and probably one of the few reasons I'm still in .40

Came close to getting a Stoeger before I went with a SD40. The stoeger shoulfd be a good gun, and that's a good price. All the reviews I've seen have been positive. Enjoy your new weapon!

If it shoots as good as it looks I'm sure you'll be quite happy with it!

    Yes. :scrutiny:

Just like every other firearm you own, I'd imagine. The outside of a barrel will have some sort of corrosion treatment like bluing or parkerizing, the inside will be bare steel.

Thanks 1911 guy, I just panicked when I noticed that the inside of the barrel was lighter than the inside of the barrels of the other guns I own. I know it was a dumb question.

And thanks for the other responses guys!

FredG that's a nice 1911, congrats on your pistol!

Also I found an extra bonus in the box that they didn't mention to me in the store. It came with a cleaning kit! So that was a nice surprise!

I can't wait to try it out, but I'm not sure when I will be able to get to a range with it. :(

As soon as I fire it, I will let you guys know though!

That Cougar is a handsome pistol. Does anybody combine form & function as nicely as the Italians?

It gets worse. I removed the Series 80 safety stuff from the slide. Now the trigger is much better. I need help. :)

Been eying a double barrel shotgun at the LPS, they do make nice looking guns.

Make sure you field strip , clean & moderately oil. I ran mine a little on the "wet" side for the 1st 500 or so rounds. It's a fantastic firearm, Ive never had a failure of any kind on my 8000 or 8045 with 1000's & 1000's of rds fired. And as usual with Beretta, very little noticeable wear as well.
