I was at a LGS today and saw a Belgian Browning 16 gauge with a poly choke. The poly was very well fitted. Could the poly have been a factory option?

Possibly... been like 120 years of production.
I personally think they look awesome. Don't have any though.

I just got an old 16 running not long ago....I do like it quite a bit the only down side is the price of ammo.

I only shoot orange circle things that fly, so take this next for what it is worth....I can get 100 rounds of 12 or 20 at wally world for $20something.....I can get one box of 16 for that same $20 something.

I would give my eye teeth to find an A5 that is in 20.

Thanks for the response, but what I’m asking is if anyone knows whether or not Browning offered a factory installed polychoke on the A5 as an option.

Maybe Remington or Savage did with their versions, but I am not sure Belgium would have.

Rudolph31 is the expert on that sort of thing.

The Polychoke could have been done at Polychoke’s factory. They were pretty good at that, and preferred it in lieu of allowing gunsmiths to do it.

The shot gun I was looking at has no vent rib. I didn’t check the barrel for any indication of choke. I seem to recall that if there is no indication of choke on the barrel then it is likely the poly was factory installed. I don’t recall if that reference was specific to Browning.

According to the S/V book (https://www.fnbrowning.com/browning-auto-5-shotguns) Poly Chokes could be installed by the factory in Belgium, by Browning, or by a gunsmith. Dealers were assigned a number that was stamped on the choke; FN was assigned 9 and Browning 11. I have two Auto-5’s with Poly Chokes and neither has a number that I can find.

You can get target ammo for less than $9.00/box, even at Walmart. Here’s what’s available at Natchez:

    https://outdoors.natchezss.com/products/ammunition-shotgun-ammo-16-ga

    And at SGAmmo:

    https://www.sgammo.com/catalog/shotgun-ammunition/16-gauge-ammo

Or, you can start reloading and actually save money.

You are clearly in violation of the I have too many A5's act....you are ordered to send one to me....failure to do so will result in me being jealous.

Up date on the sweet 16. The poly choke has a #3 on it. Does that mean it could be dealer installed?
