Browning BLR (repair)

I've been interested in knowing more about the mechanics of the BLR and have searched the web and found only fragments of information on assembly and disassembly of the trigger/lever /bolt mechanism. Perhaps the best source so far has been in reference to Gun Digest volume IV. Most people suggest that it's too complicated and fact so complicated and exacting that even gunsmiths shy away from it.

Personally I want to fully understand and in an emergency situation want to be comfortable with repairing my BLR. At least minor repairs such as sear spring. I would also think that in some point in time it may be absolutely necessary to clean a rifle completely.

I understand that there are timing issues and that it is imperative to get it right . I have technical and mechanical skills and can't imagine that the complexities would be beyond those skills.

I'd love to hear others opinions and knowledge of the BLR's mechanism

I believe it is just drift the pins out in the correct direction and take it apart. But then again if it is together I will take it apart just because, and have done so for 3 decades. From what I remember, the only thing to figure out is how the bolt times on the "rack" and the rest should be fine. Take that with a grain of salt though, as I have never done it. Got to ask you though: why? There is nothing in there that needs servicing, and when the sear spring breaks you can wory about it then, provided someone will sell you a spring.


Would be fun though!

btw, if you can't put it back together just have the smith or a factory do it.....

as usuall, have the functioning checked out by a smith to ensure safety.

I wasn't going to take it down unless I have to. But I would like to have all the necessary info and some nice photos ahead of time

I have found more info on the BLR. The pre-81's and the 81's seem to have most parts in common .
Changes have been made to the Lightweight model. The bolt looks to be remodeled and fitted with a firing pin inertia system on models 1997 to present. The lever also looks different on the lightweights. The lever gear rack is now a separate piece from the lever.

Anyone have any updated info on these changes?
