Hi, I'm having a problem with my BHP that I'm hoping someone might be able to help with. After firing several rounds this past weekend, I noticed that the slide wasn't locking back after firing the last round of the clip. It's a fairly new gun that hasn't been fired that much so I chalked it up to a break in issue. However, when I got home and started to disassemble the gun for cleaning, I discovered that the take down pin was stuck and wouldn't budge, and as a result, the lever part of the pin that locks the slide back was very stiff and not operating oroperly...which is why the slide wasn't locking back after firing the last round. Ive stripped this weapon down a few times since Ive had it and I've never had this issue. I don't understand what has caused it to be stuck. And it's really stuck. Anyone ever have this issue? If so, what's the cause and solution?

The slide stop on the BHP is tensioned by a spring and ball bearing inside the recoil spring guide. Those parts are not normally removed for cleaning nor do they normally need it. Assuming you can remove the slide stop, do so,, then strip the pistol, removing the recoil spring guide. Put some good gun oil in the crosswise hole in the spring guide, and work the slide stop in and out until it moves easily, though under tension. Assuming no one has "played" with anything, the oil should work its way in and relieve the problem.

Hi thanks for the response. The problem is that I can't strip the gun. The pin that holds the slide is stuck...it won't move at all. Normally I just lock the slide back with the safety and the pin pushes right out and the slide comes right off, allowing me to remove the recoil spring and barrel for cleaning....but the pin won't budge....so I can't strip the gun down at all.

OP, is there any chance that you installed the recoil spring guide upside down?

I had an HP that did that.

For me the answer was to slowly move the slide back and forth until I found the place where the pin would come out - which was just a little off from the slide lock position. Yes, it's tricky to do with only two hands.
Make sure the mag isn't in the weapon either.

This is likely.

Remove the mag. While moving the slide back and forth a small bit, as described above, use the bottom of the mag to press on the slide stop pin from the right hand side of the frame. This should move the pin a bit to where you can remove it by hand by prying it.

When you reassemble it make sure the recoil spring guide is in the correct position.

Mjagg, do consider that the slide lock lever can be removed only when the slide is locked to the rear and the lever pressed all the way up - as if the pistol is on slide lock. There are locking notches on both the slide lock and the slide, that prevent the slide lock to be pushed out of the frame when in down position. I too suspect that you installed the recoil spring guide upside down - it's a common mistake and usually brings the same results. I can suggest to use a brass punch and a hammer to drive that slide lock lever out.

This is what I'm suspecting f has happened. I'm usually very careful with that sort of thing, but I can't think of any other reason why the pin would be so stuck.

If your recoil spring guide was assembled incorrectly there is a good chance that you have either damaged it or will damage it during disassembly. They are available, but they are not cheap.

I have no idea why the little ball should get stuck, but if it is, there is still no way to remove the slide stop except to force it by driving out the pin, just being careful not to damage the frame. I suspect that moving the slide stop will loosen the ball permanently and resolve the problem. Use a brass punch, make sure the projections on the slide stop will clear the frame, then lay the gun on the bench and tap the end of the slide stop pin that projects from the right side of the frame.
