I just picked up an LCP for summer carry...I'ts my first 380 and I've seen lots of threads and opinions on sd ammo, good, not good...I'm going to shoot some different offerings and see how they feel...I notice buffalo bore makes a standard 380 as well as the +p...Is there a true advantage to one or the other? How effective is the standard compared to the +P? Is their standard better than say critical defense or speer gold dot ? I heard +P is not for the LCP...I'd like to run the Buffalo Bore based on a lot of positive statements but I don't want to destroy the firearm...Any info appreciated...

A few rounds, or even a few hundred rounds, of "+P" is not going to blow up the gun. It will shorten the life of small parts like the recoil spring and with very heavy use could cause wear to major components (e.g., peening barrel lockup surfaces, battering frames, etc.) I have a bigger concern with shooting comfort (this gun has been known to pound hands and bite/sting trigger fingers) and controllability in rapid fire. If it is painful to practice with it, you won't practice with it, and more and faster center hits beat fewer and poorly placed hits any time. I don't buy the malarkey that "if you get in a real shooting you won't feel the recoil." My best recommendation is to try a box and see how you and the gun like it. If OK, then you can practice with cheap ball ammo and save the BB for familiarization and carry.

I have shot BB through all of my 380 pistols and there is a noticeable difference in recoil between the BB and most other ammo, but since I have elected to only carry fmj ammo in my 380 pistols and since every gelatin test with most brands of fmj show penetration in gelatin of 16 inches or more I don't see any point in spending the extra money on premium ammo.

If you intend to Carry jhp than premium ammo like Buffalo Bore or one of the other well known brands would be the way to go.

Anybody got a recipe for +p .380...........
Are these "+P loads" over 21,500 psi?
or .40 +P? :cuss:
