Welcome to the Centerfire Match for the month of April! This match is open to any centerfire rifle. This match is meant to be challenging and educational, but most of all FUN. Hopefully it will get you out to the range and shooting your rifle. If you have one handy, make sure an bring a friend too.

->Iron sights and non-magnified optics and red dots. Shot at 25yds.*
->Scopes and other magnified sighting devices. Shot at 100yds.

*Note the change in distance for the non-magnified division.

There are Three Rifle Classes in the magnified division (only one for the non-magnified division):
->Unlimited/Benchrest Rifles (highly modified/custom rifles, machine rests, heavy rifles (over 20lbs), very high magnification optics [over 20x] may be used).
->Target Rifles (modified rifles, rests, heavy rifles (over 10lbs), high magnification optics- over 10x [with an upper limit of 20x] may be used).
->Sporting Rifles (Includes All Non-Target Class Autoloaders, Bolt Actions, Single Shots, Pumps, & Lever Rifles). Rests/sandbags/bipods are not permitted in this class, but shooting sticks (either the crossed or walking stick variety) are allowed. Use of a sling is encouraged. Shoots may be taken from any position. Rests/Sandbags/bipods are not permitted in this class.

25 Yd. (Irons) Target: See image in the link below. Scale to 100% on standard 8.5x11in. paper. The objective is to fire one shot at each bug (feel free to color them to increase visibility). Each bug is scored as two points for a direct hit (body), and one point for winging it (any hit to the antenna/leg/wing).

100 Yd. (Optics) Target: Same as above.

When you are satisfied you've done your best post/attach (or shoot me a PM) a photo or scan of your target with as much of the following information as possible: Forum name (or name you want posted in the results), Rifle, make, model, vintage (if known), Sights/Optics (with magnification if applicable), Ammo (or load, if you care to divulge your secret recipe), Position, Distance, Conditions (in/outdoors, wind, temperature...). Multiple submissions are allowed (in same or different class with same or different rifles).

Self-scoring is encouraged and appreciated. All submissions due before April 31st. ;) Now get out there and nail some of those pesky bugs...

Thanks for a great target Maverick223! I shot it yesterday with my home-built AK-47, so.......

I think I got a score of about 3 . I did tear into the leg on the grasshopper (one point); my shot for the ant went wild and hit the bee instead, but I'm not sure whether that was the head shot or the wing shot. So would that be one or two points? And then I winged the butterfly (one point).

So that's a score of either 3 or 4 points by my reckoning, I'll let you decide what to do about the bee.... :)

    Rifle: Romanian AK-47
    Sights: Iron sights
Ammo: Some sort of old Yugo surplus
    Position: Prone
    Range: 25yds

I was shooting outside, and the weather was really nice. First time I've been outside without a big heavy winter jacket on for a long time! :D

I'm hoping to re-shoot this with my 30-06 pretty soon, hopefully I'll fare better with that.

A_Matthew, my apologies for the slow response, been out of town for the past few days. In the event of a double hit, we normally take the lowest score...however I think you still have four hits (bee, butterfly, ladybug, & grasshopper) for 4pts. Thanks for getting us started!

Nice. Maybe I'll use my AK this time around instead of the AR. No, wait, I'll use both and shoot a target with each!

Sounds like a pretty fair idea to me.

Well, I suppose 4 points isn't too bad for my first try... Oh well. I'm hoping to re-shoot the target sometime this next week. We'll see what happens...

Do you get extra points if you use a .22 Hornet?

    (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)

I think that if you own a .22 Hornet or .218 Bee, you are obligated to use it on this target.

I don't know about that, but if you can manage to bust a real, live (before commencing fire) insect on said target (without the aid/evidence of bait) we might be able to work something out. ;)

Mods, if you are tuning in, I'd like to take this time to thank you for killing the spammer that infected these matches early this morning. We appreciate you folks!

    Final Results:

1st (and only) Place: A_Matthew (Open Sights Div.)

New match should be up and running within the next hour or so. Moving forward I think I'm going to try to make this a quarterly match instead of monthly in the hopes of garnering a bit more participation.

    :)
