Ok guys like the title suggests you’ve gotta build a hunting rifle for a child/newcomer only rules are as follows this is your ultimate build so have fun with it but let’s keep it in the realm of current possibilities no Phased plasma rifles in the 40 watt range please and thank you
1) .224 and up bullet diameter
2) It’s for whitetail deer wherever you hunt them
For me I have a few ideas
First off a CZ 527 chambered in 6.5 Grendel/6 Arc or 350 Legend
Second a Howa mini Carbon Fiber in 6.5 Grendel 6 Arc or 350 legend with a hinged floor plate no mag if it’s my choice
Third a Browning X bolt Chambered in 22 Creedmoor lets go with a stainless stalker or a hells canyon
Fourth a tricked out Rem model 7 Chambered in 260 Remington with all the extra stuff a Custom shop could do to get it to Shoot you know glass bed free float the action Bartlein barrel
Fifth would be a Melvin Forbes NULA/or a Barret Fieldcraft in 6.5 Creedmoor
So what say you![]()
Depends what and where you're hunting, and at what range. For a midwest deer gun, for example, a good .357 lever gun is pretty soft shooting and works well without any bells and whistles. Practice can be had with .38 special ammo. Plus, you could get the kid some trigger time on 4" .38 special or .357 mag revolver that shares ammo with it. Ammo is not as cheap or widely available as in years past, but it's not a zebra cartridge that may or may not take off in terms of market hold. It also tends to meet the requirements for the states with cartridge limitations in certain regions.
