Well, our Buckmark is being sent back to Browning for repair, and we have to wait 8-10 long weeks 'til we can sell it. Although we're probably going to get a Yugo SKS with the money from the Buckmark. However, I am looking at any guns in the price range, and this Bulgarian Makarov popped up. We're still probably going to get the SKS, but I just want to see what people think about the Makarov in terms of reliability, accuracy, etc. Also, how available is the 9x18 Makarov round?

These are great. I now have two. Very reliable, accurate. I had to adjust my rear sight to the left and file it down a little to get it hitting POA on one of them. Great for plinking and Concealed Carry. Ammo is inexpensive and available at most gunshops. I have not seen it yet at the big chain stores like Walmart or Galyans. These guns are durable like most milsurp firearms and should last many thousands of rounds.
Check out Makarov.com for more info and a place to buy accessories.

Here's a pic of my two Bulgarian Beauties.

love my bulgarian

I got mine at a gunshow few months ago. Not one problem. Reliable, accurate enough, just needed about 5 mins of filing the sharp edge off the back of the grip that always rubbed the web of my hand. I get Wolf ammo for about $6/box here in Tx. I have a SKS and m44, also. All great guns. I am American, but it is hard to beat those russian designed milsurps.

I am a new believer in the Mak.

Got mine a couple weeks ago for $210 out the door, Pistol 2 mags, 2 grips, check, 2 boxes of shells, military style holster, cleaning tool and hard case.

I also got a couple pounds of cosmoline with it that had to be removed. www.Makarov.com has detailed stripping instructions that made it a piece of cake.

I have only put 50 rounds through it but it functioned flawlessly and double and triple taps were a thing of joy. This little pistol points instincively and is quite accurate.

Now I just need to come up with a carry holster for it.

holster?

you dont like the brown military rig? Sounds like you got a good deal. I got the military holster and two mags with a basically unfired Bulgie for $177 out the door at a show in Texas. A nice carry holster will be next...

Maks Rule!

Get it. I have a Bulgarian Mak that is super reliable and very accurate. The Mak is the best value going in a semiauto pistol, IMO.

Even if your local shops don't carry 9x18, you can mail order it cheap in bulk.

Once you go Mak you don't go back

My Mak is by far the most reliable semi-auto handgun I've ever fired, and I've fired quite a few (my Dad is a gun dealer). I've put thousands of rounds thur the thing, and it has NEVER jamed.

9mm Makarov, aka 9X18, is not something you can get everywhere like 9mm Luger or .38 special, but it is fairly common at the gunshows, and you can order it online or form catalogs for pretty cheap. You can also reload it.

In terms of preformance, it's basicly a souped up .380 ACP with a bullet that is slightly larger in diameter ("True" 9mms are .355 inch bullet diameter, 9mm Mak is .365).

I cked the Dillon website and they have IWB and OWB holsters for the Mak.
45 to 55 dollar range. I don't know any other leather makers that have them. Unless special order maybe.
