Right now with the 25% Bushnell rebate, the Bushnell Xtreme 4-16x44 and Vortex Crossfire II 6-18x44 are about the same price. I'm looking for a good quality budget scope for my M1A Loaded (Bassett low pic rail mount). I've been very happy with a couple of Vortex optics I've owned in the past but I have no experience with Bushnell.

I'm anxious to hear opinions on which of these two (if either) you'd prefer and why. Please don't say that they're both junk, you get what you pay for etc etc. This is what I can afford and frankly it's all that I need. I'd especially like your opinion if you've owned either one. The scope will be used exclusively for target shooting.

Thanks in advance.

Of the two, I prefer the Bushnell Trophy Xtreme 4-16x44mm. I'm using one currently on top of a 243win Savage Striker (bolt action handgun) as a temporary option. If it had a MOA ranging reticle, I'd be content to leave it there.

I have yet to be satisfied with a Crossfire. Vortex does some really nice scopes, and I'm very happy with my Vipers and Razors, but the Diamondbacks and Crossfires, I'd leave behind.

Thanks for the good info Varminterror. The Vortex optics I've owned and been happy with are the Strikefire and Sparc RDSs and Viper so I don't gave experience with the entry level ones.
Is the crosshair in the Bushnell fine enough for target shooting? It's probably more of a hunting than target scope so I want to be sure it isn't too coarse for accurate shooting.

Have two Crossfire IIs, one plain and the other BDC. Fine optics for the price and hard to beat Vortex warranty / support.

bushnell can go pound salt! I had a brand new bushnell shotgun scope the back glass busted under recoil costing me to wound a deer. they told me too bad so sad I must have dropped the gun or something. for the price I have 2 vortex crossfires on 2 savage axis rifles. the rifles are cheap hunting guns so I put decent glass on them. I have the 6-18 and its a very nice scope for the price. check cabelas cause its like $130 at cabelas.com for the 6-18-44. they also give a sunshade. I use my scope for target work and varmints and have to use the turrets a bit with shooting woodchucks and they always track well for me.

The model that Cabelas has for $139 has the V-plex reticle which is supposedly for hunting. Is that the one that you have? I don't really care about having a BDC reticle but the crosshairs on the V-plex are .2 MOA thick while the BDC crosshairs are .1 MOA thick. Since I'd be using it only for target shooting I wonder if spending the extra $80 for finer crosshairs would be worth it.
Do you find your reticle adequate for target shooting?

Edit- I just found it on eBay for $190 which makes it a $50 difference.

ive never used the v plex but I do really like the bdc x hair as it doesn't cover the target. I'm a aim small miss small guy so shoot at tiny diamond bullseyes and have no issues with the bdc. I think the crossfire is clearer than Nikon prostaff also.
