Also, Anheuser-Busch is now owned by a foreign brewery, so watch out on the beer too!

Busch is now InBev (Belgium). Miller is now SAB (England). Coors is now Molson (Canada).

If you don't like drinking microbrews as you prefer the classic American lager style, you've always got Pig's Eye or Lionshead :D

(off-topic, but still elaborates on the issue of Buying American)

I'd drink nothing but microbrews if I could afford to, no matter what country they're from.

I am happy to buy American anything if the quality and performance is up to snuff - if not I go elsewhere. As mentioned several times, the definition of "American made" is blurry these days.

I think it's a joke letting foreign companies run here in the U.S. They pay cheaper wages, they don't have the pensions to pay out, and they don't have to pay for insurance because their government covers that. How in the hell are American companies going to compete in that kind of market. Stupid people say ( but it will create American jobs) Yea! and it will also destroy American jobs. Who cares if Toyota creates 1000 jobs in the U.S if they take away thousands of jobs from Ford and Chevy. How does that help the economy? Again, our government making other countries rich, while our country goes broke. What a joke!

Hello sweet45,
I agree with alot of what you are saying. But I'm confused about the stupid people part taking jobs away from other American manufacturers. Can you explain?

Unions broke ford and chevy, not toyota.

That's another one I could use a little explanation on. I've no knowledge of what working for a union is like.

Hey DammitBoy,
That, not to be disrespectful, is not much of a explanation. My wife works for the Teacher's Union and she works hard, spends our money for school supplies without any compensation and is underpaid. So I have to differ at that remark as being a knowledgeable or comprehensive statement. I'm not attempting to start a fight, but a dialogue as I have heard unions blamed for countless things and I don't understand. If this is too far afield of the thread you can PM me.

I don't want to get too far off-topic, but I work in construction and I've never seen a guy in a union carry his own water on a jobsite.

I'm not saying there are not good people in unions, what I'm saying is unions are not good for america.

It makes buying american difficult at times, when quality goes down and cost goes up. Not a knock against your wife, but the american school system sucks and teachers unions are a large part of that problem.

Out of my entire collection, I have (3) American made guns, Mossberg 500 shotgun, Remington 700 SPS Tactical .308 and a Ruger 22/45 pistol. All of my other's are foreign made, but I could care less, because they are guns that I like with features I like, that shoot the way I like.:D:p

I've been driving import cars for decades, does that make me un-patriotic? :p

But, does anyone know which major brands are made in the U.S.?

STI and High Standard are both made in Texas

I'm very impressed with STI (love their firearms) and High Standard have excellent customer service, at least in the minimal capacity I've used it (mainly just to get info on some of their firearms). They have very nice people who reply timely to inquires AND they totally support the troops.

High Standard acquired AMT and I am looking forward to getting a few of the AutoMag .30 carbine and .45 ACP. Hopefully they will avoid some of the hit or miss quality issues AMT had, because I simply love longslide 45s and the concept of a 30 carbine handgun... *drool* :what:

STI make some very slick, very nice 1911 and 1911 style firearms. IMHO, far better than the equivalent Kimber. They are simply better built. The action on the STI is like rubbing a stick of butter on a hot Teflon pan.

Since my income is limited, and my upbringing Yankee, I've only bought about:
-- two brand new guns (out of the nearly 100 I've owned)
--one brand new motorcycle (out of 65 I've owned)
--zero brand-new cars/trucks (out of the dozen or more I've owned)

If I had the money to buy new cars, motorcycles, and guns, I might think a bit more about it.

I tend to buy what works, and I buy it used. :)

of my over 150 guns I own I would say 30% US made totaly. Of my 6 autos I own my 2 1979's are mostly USA made.

Sorry to say this DammitBoy, but again such a blanket statement provides me with no information other than your personal opinion. The schools do poorly because parents do not properly (my blanket statement) nuture, teach and rear their offspring allowing schools, tv, and video games to do so. Also budget cuts causing teachers to loose their jobs and increasing the ratio of teacher to student past a correct and workable limit. Schools are not IMHO where respect, courtesy, correct behaviour are to be taught. Parents that think this ARE sorrily mistaken and are not fulfilling their responsibilities. She fills out all the state required paperwork, makes lesson plans, teaches and tests every individual child in her class and is inspected by school officials and must re certify her license every five years by continually taking her time to go to classes to continue her education. She even had to paint her own classroom and decorate it with non school provided funds (ie. her own money). Her class CD player is my old CD player. She is being given not the negotiated raises but she is getting a free day off without pay. Knowing other teachers in the same situation again makes me doubt your real knowledge at least on this point. Facts I think speak more loudly than opinion. Again no disrespect but a marked difference of opinion at least in this case.

uh yeah, but Beer, Beef, and Guns are kinda the exception. You can buy purely USA-produced product in those categories without too much scrutiny or thought, and it's often the best product to boot.

Maybe in guns, maybe, but if you think the US has the best beer or beef then you must not get out much.

Just ask our Belge friend Borris about beer. Where in Belgium are you from Borris?

Hi-Point and Kel-Tec are both 100% US made.

Yeah, and they both SUCK! How many SWAT teams use Hi-Point or Kel-Tec?NONE

From what I've heard, a lot of police officers carry Kel-Tec .380's and .32's as backup guns.

There are a lot of police departments that issue S&W Sigma's as a standard duty weapon. Sigmas are almost as cheap as a Kel-Tec .380.

Conversely, how many SWAT teams use Les Baer or Calico Products?

Or what about Swiss Sig P210's for that matter?

Personally, I like to think of politics when contemplating a purchase. Why should I buy a product made in a place where they are illegal to own? That would be like ordering food from a Chef that never tastes a recipe before putting it on the menu.

Combine this with the fact that a lot of these imports are just knock-offs of American designs. For what the cheap guns from Brazil and the Philippines cost, I can buy a gently used authentic gun for the same price. After all, a gun is only NEW while it's in the dealer's glass case.

I believe in buying American. Yet, having sold Chevrolet and Chrysler products, I now sell Hondas. Most of which are made here in the USA! I also believe in buying quality. My customers are happier and so am I.

Messy...

Foreign goods were a novelty when I was growing up...

Everything's so entangled now...

No Nation or Culture can stand the betrayal of values, when politics and economies are money-driven...and 'boundries' are compromised to patronize it...

A little off topic, but I work for Saturn and drive a Subaru.:neener: If you want my opinion, GM/Saturn = junk, based on what I see in our shop everyday, trannies being pulled out of cars at 30,000 miles, that's a joke. My subie has a much higher quality feel than Saturn and will probably outlast the Saturn by 100,000 miles.:p No offense to the GM drivers, I just don't like'em.
