This can’t be true. There would be a line miles, and miles and miles long to take part. Every Hi Point in a 3 state radius would sell out.

I call Shenanigans....No other news outlet in New Orleans has made any mention of this. Nothing on the City of New Orleans government website. Nothing on Cantrell's Facebook page. The church where the buyback is supposed to happen has nothing on its website for Jan.19th. New Orleans has done several gun buybacks in the past, but $500 for any gun just doesn't sound right...plus the only outlet to report this...BigEasyMagazine...bills itself as "Progressive New Orleans". Not sure what the play is, but the whole thing sounds suspect.

If it is real they most likely don't have more then a few thousand dollars to give out.
Gun buy backs are a joke. it's just to make the Libtards feel good. My Police Dept. did one a few months a go with money from a federal grant. Less then 30 guns were turned in and out of those only about 10 were not junk. But nothing was worth writing home about either.
My Dept. destroys close to 1000 guns a year that are picked up in street crimes.

At that price point they're going to attract people from a several hundred mile radius. lol

I have a feeling their total funding available is not that big, but once you're there, certain people will feel compelled to give them up even if the money dries up. Oops, sorry, no money left, but we can't let you leave with that sawed off shotgun.

I thought I was doing good a long time ago in Brooklyn at $200 a handgun, $100 a long gun. The proceeds got me a new Marlin Papoose, and my son a new Mossberg 500.

    Love "turn ins"!

Can't be for real. I have a 22LR rifle that we bought for $8 that still shoots. I might go visit some family in Pascagoula and swing over to N.O. on the 19th. I'll even throw in a 50 round box of ammo for it. I just can't believe that some one that got elected to be the Mayor of a city is that stupid.

I'm waiting to see someone post about what happened when they showed up and asked to collect on the offer. My guess is that it is totally fake, or a misprint that should have read $50 instead of $500.

They’ll be out of money in 20 minutes and then crow about what a success it was.

I may be wrong, but I think I saw something similar to this a year or two ago on another forum. Thought it was at a church in LA then as well. I couldn't guarantee it though. My memory isn't what it used to be.

Been there done that. You are absolutely right, the buy back will last about 2 minutes. There was a similar buy back program for $1 per bullet for ammo. It also crashed and burned before it got off the ground,

Now that one would be great! I'd be up all night running the Dillon 650 and make sure I got there 3 hours before it started. My 9mm ammo runs me ~$0.05 each. $0.95 profit on each one!

Do we know if this was for real?

As an aside, on the Gotham TV show, the criminals had a shortage of rounds, so one offered 1000 lbs of prime steak for 1000 rounds of 9mm FMJ. Well, I'd have to buy some new freezers for the tons of steak I would have.

I had my doubts, but it looks to be real. See Blkhrt13's post #12. I don't know how that video could be fake. They have done it before offering $100 for handguns and $200 for long guns. Stupidity at it's finest.

They say you have to show proof that you are an Orleans Parish resident. There goes my upgrade. Dang it all.

I guess its happening...pulled this from the mayor's Facebook page

Still think it's odd the only place it's being advertised is on the mayor's Facebook, and i highy doubt its $500 per gun, looks like $500 max per person.

Wouldn’t it be funny if the ATF shows up and busts them for buying guns without an FFL?

    Hey, it could happen....

In the state of Louisiana you don’t need a FFL to buy guns from an individual as long as you’re not doing it as a business.

And the $.05 is if you actually put powder in them. ;)

Not a misprint. Says the same things multiple times on the mayor's Facebook page and she says it's $500 in her announcement about it on the video.
