There are many pistols that are not on the California approved list for sale.

I understand that is because they havent been submitted to review and paid the fee for looking over said pistol.

Is is legal to buy a say 1911 Sig Nightmare, where it is legal to own, and then bring it back to Calif. with me?

The only difference I see in the gun is a bobbed grip.

If you are a California resident, how do you plan to purchase it legally in another state?

No.

If you live in CA, and the gun is owned/sold by a person who lives in a different state, that is an interstate transfer.

Federal law requires that an interstate transfer of a handgun must go through an FFL in the buyer's state of residence.

Since the gun you prefer is off the CA Roster, the CA FFL could not transfer it to you unless you were exempt (usually LEO) or the gun were exempt (the current, about to expire work-around is 'single shot exemption').

It would be a Federal felony for the out of state person to sell it to you, and a separate Federal felony for you to bring it back.

Obviously it violates federal law if you're a CA resident. Another question would be what if you lived in another state where you owned that gun legally, and then moved to CA. Does CA have an import ban on non-approved guns?

Well crap! ok, thanks for the input.

I really want a nightmare! guess I have to retire and MOVE.
