Buying scopes=what to look for?

Ah yeah, reticle reflecting light going in the occular. I haven't seen a scope that won't do that when lit properly. I've never noticed that while in use, only when looking thru them goofing around. The scopes with larger occulars, and/or less anti reflective coatings on the inside of the tube are a little more prone to do it.
My prostaff 3-9 BDC does it the worst.

Yeah the lower end scopes, especially with big occulars are bad for it. Cheap pistol scopes are probably the worst.
My Simmons 4x32 prohunter is a really good little scope for the cost, but it's crosshairs always look lighter colored when there is any light source behind me, or evening a decently reflective surface.

I've got S&W made by Hakko, that has a huge occular but amazingly enough it dosent do that unless I'm pretty far off center or I get light directly over my right shoulder. All my others are somewhat better or worse.

I have bushnell and leupold on all my varmint rifles. you can get bushnell elites for under $400. i have a 4200 4-16x with sf and a 6-24x; both very good scopes. i buy them at a bushnell outlet store and get really good discounts....i usually pay about $350

I never had a high opinion of Bushnell, my only experience had been with a bubble pack rimfire scope. Ten years ago I kept reading about the 4200 Elites so I purchased a 3-9x40. It’s been on my .270 since then and I’ve never felt the need to replace it. The Bushnell 4200 Elite and the original Zeiss Conquest remind me a lot of each other in the bang for your buck dept.
