My C&R FFL expires in three months. I was under the impression that BATFE sends me a renewal application. I couldn't find any renewal forms at their web site.

Should I worry and maybe give them a call? or do they normally do this on a fairly tight schedule?

I got my renewal notice and application in December. Didn't fill it out and send it back until end of January. Got my new license in 3 weeks.

ATF will send you a renewal, just be patient.

As a general rule, re-ups take considerably less time than first time apps to be processed and approved.

Thanks!

Knowing this I'll sit tight, if they mailed it out at 90 days it should have been in the mail on Friday.

hang tight..... I got my notice with less than two months to go..... got the new one with one month left on the old one....

May I ask? What are the advantages to having a C+R Lic.?

None of my collection are C&R elligible guns. I have the license to get discounts at Midway and Brownells.

IMHO its worth it for the discounts and to get a $190 Romanian TTC 7.62x25 pistol.

My renewal form arrived in today's mail so seems they likely did send it out 90 days from its expiration. Will send it back tomorrow.

Is there a lot more paperwork involved as a C&R FFL holder, are the discounts significant enough for the hassle, or is the hassle quite minimal?

A C&R is $30/3 years,

I dont know the paperwork requirements as I opted to go with an 01 instead, it costs more and is a business license as apposed to the C&R being a collectors license, but, for what I like, it works better for me

The paperwork for the C&R is little more than when you buy a gun from a dealer. You do two copies, one to your local Police Chief (who usually ignores it) and the other with the $30 fee to BATFE.

I hope this is sufficiently on-topic....

Just a heads-up about C&R renewal:

I had a C&R license but let it lapse. When I got the renewal application, there were questions regarding the amount of ammo I had which bothered me somewhat.

I bought a bunch of spam cans of 7.62X25 and 8MM Mauser when the price was cheap. I had the money at the time and bought enough to last me for a long, long time to avoid having to buy new ammo at five times the price. There must some reason that they wanted to know a round count and I thought that having a bit more than ten thousand rounds on hand may raise a federal eyebrow or two.

A couple of folks told me to lie on the form but that's a crime. I'm also pretty sure that those who sell mail order surplus ammo have some records of who bought what so, if push came to shove and some agency did some checking, my saying that I have some minimal amount would conflict with their saying that they sent me 5,000 rounds.

I just didn't want to chance ending up on some no-fly or possible-problem-person list somewhere for no reason other than wanting to shoot my Tokarev at the range on the cheap. I mean, wasn't there a US congressman or senator on the news a while back who couldn't get himself off of the no-fly list?

The paperwork is hardly a hassle. Like others stated you have to send an application to the local head LEO whom you don't hear anything. You're required to list the head LEO's name and address on the form sent to the BATF.

Two to three months later they send your license.

You send copies to Midway and Brownells and they setup your account with the C&R discount.

The discounts vary between the two sites and varies on the product you're purchasing. I recently assembled an AR15 and more than made my money back on the $30 fee. Most likely you'll benefit from the discounts if you shoot often and regularly purchase stuff.

I've never purchased a gun but you're required to keep a bound book of all C&R firearms you purchase with your license. I regret not buying the CZ82 when Aim Surplus first came out with them. Looked brand new and reasonable at $200.

This must be very new. I don't remember answering this in January. I wonder why they would even want that information.

I just got a really nice CZ-82 from SOG in January for $222.00 shipped.

Seriously? I just renewed mine a couple of months ago and there were no questions about ammo.

You sure they sent you the right form?

I haven't kept the form so I can't quote it directly but there was an ammo question involved. There was also something about the number of weapons bought or sold since I got the license.

Being a person who flits around, interest-wise, until I settle into a groove, I made a bunch of purchases, most of which I sold off not too long after. I hadn't made any overall profit, though. Most of what I sold incurred a slight loss but, when I actually counted it all up, I could see how some form reviewer could maybe think that I had some kind of part-time business going on.

More about the ammo question:

I just called my father (he keeps everything) and asked him to read me the questions on his renewal form (sent to him approx. 8 months after I got mine.) There were no ammo questions on his (a different version of the form?) I even remember a thread in which some of us were speaking about this very same thing a year or two back so I did a search here, on the other forums I frequent, and with Google; I came up with nothing. My father did remember my telling him at the time I got my form that I was uneasy about having to say how many rounds I had on hand so I know that at least I didn't dream it up recently.

This whole thing makes me wonder, though, because I quit drinking almost 9 years ago and have kept my facts and recollections pretty straight and consistent since then. This is unsettling.

Did anyone who renewed their license within the last 2 years (maybe more) have the same experience?

woad_yurt,

I renewed my C & R license in June of 2010, and there were no any questions about ammo on hand.
