Greetings, 03 FFL ("Curio and Relic") holders - how many C&R guns have you bought?

Ever been visited by any three-letter government agencies?

Buddy of mine knew a guy who bought five guns in one day, part of an estate sale, and got a visit. He was not even a C&R holder, just picked them up at a shop.

Looks like a C&R holder would be on their "radar" and more likely to be watched.

Any horror stories, or do "they" care about you?

(Moderators, move this thread if need be, thanks)

I had some before that tragic boating accident...

I have heard of people being inspected, but have never been inspected. From what I understand, it's no big deal, although it is a bit of a hassle (and probably gets you double-checking your bound book to make sure there aren't any typos!) Buying five in one day on a 4473 would probably get some attention whether or not you hold a C&R.

I've bought 6 in the last year for a grand total of $1,070 + shipping.

No calls or visits yet, though I'd be curious to see their reaction on seeing my body armor, ruck, and other gear from work on shelves next to my gun safe in my storage room.

I bought 6 #4mk1 Enields at once, with no issues. Having the C&R for over 10 years has been hard on the bank account. Haven't bought anything since 2009 until last month, when I bought back an Enfield I had sold about 4 years ago. The pickin's are slim today though. Very few things available today compared to 6 or 8 years ago.

They were $75 each. UPS guy was kinda shocked when we inspected the rifles for damage.

I've had my C&R since 1996. Bought 50+. No visits. As DougW says, the heady days of 3 Finnish Moisin-Nagants for $99 (delivered!) are LONG gone. Last C&Rs I bought were 3 Brazilian Mausers maybe 18 months ago. One is a shooter. Second needs some work and then it will be a shooter. Third is a wall-hanger. All the good stuff: CZ-52s for $99, Nagant revolvers for $49, Turk Mausers 4 for $100 seem to be history (no pun intended). Glad I got mine when I did. Don't use it much any more, but keep it because you never know when Century Arms is going to find some hidden cave in France full of C&R rifles.

ATF&E has no idea how many guns you have bought until they look at your bound book, or the bound book of the seller(s) you bought from. It's not like a typical FFL transfer that gets a back ground check.

Fed doesn't care about old guys trading crusty old bolt guns.

But they still do inspect them. The crusty old guy at work got inspected a year or so ago. It scared the heck out of him but it ended well because his bound book was in order. Funny thing about this crusty old guy I work with is that he won't apply for a CCP because he doesn't want the government to have his fingerprints and photo.....Like that really matters when they have everything else from your C&R license.

does anyone know if you have to keep track of firearms bought from a dealer with them run ins nics? I never bought a firearm using my c&r, but bought about a dozen sence I had my ffl.
