I had a C&R a while back and I am applying to et a new one. Last time, I had to send in a finger print card. I do not see anywhere on the current app where I have to do this. Was this a recent change or am I missing something?

    Thanks

This is very confusing since a fingerprint card is not required for a C&R license nor has one ever been required to my knowledge..if you requested the application from BATF they most likely sent you unneeded fingerprint cards along with the app.

i cant say as to how the application was several years ago........but i just got my C&R a few months ago....

literally a matter of printing out the forms...filling out the forms.....and mailing in the forms.

    no fingerprinting required.

This. I got mine maybe 8-10 months ago and all I had to do was fill out the paperwork. No prints

I'm on my second renewal of my current C&R. I also had a another one about 15 years ago that I let expire. I don't remember ever having to send in a fingerprint card.

yep no one does because it has never been required..the BATF is know to send un-needed and confusing paperwork along with applications for some odd reason.

IIRC there were fingerprint cards included in the application since I believe some types of FFLs require prints, but they aren't required for an FFL-03.

Apparently, the pack they send you can be used for several applications. C&R does not require a fingerprint. I think it explains this somewhere in the BATF FAQ's on their website.

thanks for your responses. Just put the app in the mail. Last time, as some of you suggested, the ATF sent me the paperwork and the card was included. Now I know.

My C&R question is, can you buy from internet dealers with it as your FFL, or do you still have to do transfers for like say a new gun (not a C&R gun)?

the C&R is an FFL.......you can have any gun 50 years or older shipped right to your house......you dont need to have it transferred through your LGS or any other FFL.

but for any "new" guns....they must all be transferred through a dealer.

So, can a person get a regular FFL for personal use, and occasional business use then?
Four guns a year pretty much pays the FFL costs, does it not?

    ffl

ffl holders are ffl holders, and are noy required to sell any guns, although you must keep records of any non personal transactions, and records have to be availible for unannounced inspection any time........c r holders are held to the same criteria.

On a slightly different tangent, have any of you heard of an applicant being turned down/denied a C&R because of their local head LEO guy saying no? For any bizarre reason(s)?......

If by "regular FFL" you mean an 01FFL "Dealer in Firearms", then no, absolutely no, positively no. With the exception of the 03FFL "Collector of Curios & Relics", Federal Firearms Licenses are strictly for someone who intends to engage in the business of dealing, manufacturing or importing firearms. ATF is very clear that an FFL is not for personal collecting purposes. A licensee may use his FFL to acquire firearms for personal use, but must show that he intends to engage in the business of dealing in firearms.

When applying for an FFL the applicant is required to send a copy to his "chief law enforcement officer" only as notification that he is applying and not for his approval. The chief LEO doesn't get to approve or deny.

Thanx Dogtown, that's exactly what I wanted to hear. We just got back from a 30 day/7000 mile road trip----would be most excellent if my C&R is sitting at my local P/Office tomorrow morning......:D
