My recently purchased CA .32H&R Professional is still at Charter, waiting for the sight alignment issue to be repaired. Fool that I am, I gleefully bought a bunch of brass for it the day it arrived, since I already had dies and projectiles from my .32 Long reloading. So now I had a bunch of cartridges and nothing to shoot them with.

Popped on to the local wholesaler Davidson's website, did a search for .32H&R, and saw that the only company still making revolvers for that cartridge is Charter. Worse, the only model not out-of-stock was the Pink Lady. Oh, what the heck. I ordered one. Though the site showed it in stock here, it wasn't, so it was shipped from North Carolina.

So here's the scoop. Just like me, it had a couple of loose screws when it arrived-- the cylinder release latch screw was not even finger-tight, and the grip screw needed some attention too. I don't think that's a big deal; I'm in the habit of always checking the screws on any new gun because I'm used to having to do a little tightening, even on higher-end items. And of course the barrel and cylinder needed some swabbing, but that's normal.

Single action trigger is a nice 4 pounds. Double action is 11, but smooth enough that it doesn't feel like a chore to operate. Cylinder lockup is as tight as any S&W. My postal scale says it weighs 15 ounces, which is what my old S&W 642 weighed. That gave me a little pause, as the reason I got rid of my Airweights was that they were just too unpleasant to shoot, but shooting this one today showed me that the cartridge isn't all that heavy-duty, despite being called "Magnum."

My range test of one commercial load and three handmades showed that it's 1 3/4" low at ten yards, which is a lot better than the Professional was at least. The good thing is that the front sight can be filed, so I'll get that straightened out tomorrow morning. The groups were really good-- 1 1/2" to 2", depending on the load-- and if I aimed at the top of the 3 1/2" circle on the target, I could tear the bullseye out of it. I can't usually shoot a snubnose that well, so I was pleased.

Pros:
-- Price was fair. With tax, title, and dealer's prep, it was 375 total.
-- Fits J-Frame holsters, of which I have... let's say "a few."
-- Mechanically just fine, and has a transfer bar for drop safety.
-- Weight suits the cartridge well, and should be an easy gun to carry if I want to.

Cons:
-- The full-sized grip is a little silly. Even a full-power .32 Magnum ain't all that. (I've ordered the standard small wood grips for it.)
-- Only five rounds, and I really can't understand why they did that.
-- The throw on the extractor rod is too short, but it's a 2" barrel, so that's how it goes.

If you're saying to yourself, "Hey, that looks like Unique soot," you'd be right. Two of the loads used Unique, and I only shot twenty of them total.

Oh yeah, the color. I don't want to talk about the color. You go right ahead if you want to. I don't want to.

Thanks for the report. I doubt I'll be buying one as I already have an old Taurus 32 H&R that is very similar. It serves me pretty well. As a matter of fact, it's my "working out back" gun, and I'll be wearing it tucked behind my right hip while I'm out mowing weeds and clearing brush on the back part of our place this afternoon.
I sure wish someone would build a 32 H&R DASA revolver with a 4" barrel though. I'd even buy it if it was a 327 Federal, even though I'd never shoot anything other than 32 H&Rs in it. I'd love to have a 4" 32 H&R DASA revolver for a "bumming around in the hills" gun," or "fishing" gun. I guess my tastes in guns are not all that "mainstream" though, or 32 H&R revolvers would be more popular, and more gun companies would be building them.;)

Good write-up! I had an older Undercover that after a range trip I got in the habit of checking the screws and frame pins as they came loose every time.

I'm with ya. If the Ruger LCRX .327 had a 3" version, I'd have bought it already. I keep a lookout on the auction sites for a .32H&R S&W or Taurus, but it seems like everybody that has one wants to keep it.

I’m definitely hoping you provide an update on the status of the Professional upon its return. It’s on a short list as a potential carry for my wife.

I'll make sure I do. They've had it since the 14th of last month, so I'm hoping it won't be much longer.

That color is atrocious but otherwise the gun is nice. I have a 38 that I’m playing with and I have considered swapping it over to 32, but doubt I do because I have a Taurus 327. I hope my 38 ends up shooting as well as you describe your 32. If it does then I might end up having to keep it... I was kinda thinking tidy it up and sell it, but who knows.

Let’s see some more pics with the wood grips and some shredded targets.

There’s an eBay seller that makes resin stocks. I think they have pink or rose color ones. I wonder how that would look..you’d never lose it for sure! Lol

Pearl with gold trim would definitely be the right thing for this piece. But I'm not going to talk about the color.

Finally! Someone else! Join the noble cause, and together we will.... Well, we'll probably be disappointed with Ruger not making our guns soon enough. Ruger, are you listening yet?!?

And regarding the color... You can always paint it.

Still looks like a 5-shot snub that means business no matter what the color. I'm guessing the 5-shot cylinder keeps the hand mechanism the same as other 5-shot snubs in that frame size so they don't need to keep another part.

Nice mouse pad ;)

Mine looks just the same. Apparently no one wanted to bid on the pink one that week. Like the OP's, mine works just fine.

Here is a 4.2" Ruger SP101 in 327 magnum. I wish the trigger was better.

It's too bad that .32 Magnum is such a lost cause. I really like the cartridge. I can understand why .32 Long fell by the wayside (though I shoot a lot of that one too), but the H&R checks off a lot of boxes for me. What we need is a really popular TV show where somebody carries one. That'd fix it. I mean, look what James Bond did for the .32 PPK. :)

I'm getting used to the color. I wear Hawaiian shirts during the hot months, some of which are pretty wild, and I have a collection of Converse in wacky colors to go with them. Second childhood, I guess. I mean, hey, Elvis had a pink Cadillac, you know. ;-)

I knew I'd seen a photo of the Pink Monster lately but couldn't remember who'd posted it. We should start a club!

I actually had a Ruger in .32 H&R about a year ago. It was a Single Six Vaquero. I only shot .32 Long out of it because at the time I didn't want to branch out into another chambering in my reloading lineup. I decided the single action thing really isn't for me, so I bid it adieu. I threw it in with a deal I made at J&G, and am a little surprised to see that they still have it! It's right here. Be the first on your block to have one!

@AZAndy
Undercoverette’s are now being produced with
6 holes ... yep six shots ... my next gun purchase...
That will make my last 4 gun purchases Charters
Thanks! I'd definitely jump on one.

Edit to add: Just checked it out, and saw that it's available in lavender instead of pink. Now we're talkin'.

They do have a plain one, and it's $40 cheaper than the lavender one. Weird. A shop about a mile from me is listed as a dealer for them, so I think I'll just stop in and ask to have one ordered. Fingers crossed!

Contact Charter ... they will build one to your liking..

I won't talk about the color. I'll just say black engine enamel. :) or rattle can bedliner from the auto parts store. Or sharpie if you really must.
