Notwithstanding things have seldom been in stock, has anyone noticed Cabela’s now has a sub-heading beneath its individual primers and powders pages, “this product is currently not available online?”

This is not typical of an out of stock notice I’ve ever seen them use. (It was formerly only on the standard Federal primers page.)

Then, as you scroll down to each type where you would make a selection, there is a notice the item is available “in select stores only.”

They’ve also added a purchase limitation notice for each item—this is also new I believe. So, they’re limiting what you can’t buy anyway.

As far as I can tell this is on all primers and all powders.

Sorry for this clunky description. If I knew how to take a screenshot, I would.

Can’t sell what you don’t have. If they have to stock them somewhere I bet they will be back online. For now they would likely rather give stores something to put on shelves and buyers might also pick up other stuff they didn’t need while in the store.

I guess, but they could’ve done that without changes to the website. Anyway, ship to store was my go-to to avoid shipping and hazmat fees and also avoiding things coming to the house. (hazmat fees really add up with places limiting purchase amounts anyway.) Store is so far away I’ll never just pop in on the off chance they have something in stock. Oh well.

If I were Cabela's and seeing the shortage of primers we're currently in I'd do just what they are doing. Primers on hand will draw people into their store where they may well buy something else while they are there. Primers sold online chances are pretty good primers will be the only thing in the order.

Annoying to those of us who buy online, but they're in business to make money.

They have to update the sites anyway to reflect stocking status. This way, they change one page element one time and it cascades across all platforms/pages where that element is called. No more need to keep that set of elements updated. Much easier for the web team to manage, too.

I noticed this as well. It would be nice if someone could confirm if they are not allowing the purchase of primers online anymore so I can quit stalking their site 24\7 lol. The bass pro in Denver got rid of the primer section\shelf so I don't even know if they have plans to restock ever.

In the last 3 weeks I have ordered and had two shipments of primers sent to the store. You just have to catch it at the right time to see the add to cart button.
Maybe but I don’t think so. I ordered powder on New Year’s Day. It hasn’t shipped yet, but the order is still alive. Anyway, I’ll wager the two of us (and others) got in just under the wire. We’ll see.

I’m all for them making money and I’ll happily throw mine at them (just ask my wife). But, while I frequently drove to pick up an order at the store, I won’t drive 35 miles one way to look at an empty shelf.

That is just about the distance for me to drive to our local Bass Pro (no Cabelas around here) and exactly the reason I seldom stop by any more even when I'm in the area.

Yeah, ain't it the truth. Nearest Cabela's is about 40 min ride for me. Wife and I went down to Columbus for the holidays so I stopped at the Columbus store up on the North end. Not much anything to be had. Even the Gun Libtary was closed and the few guns from in there were in the display cases, just a few revolvers overall. Reloading and ammo shelves were clean and there was some shotgun ammunition.

We had a Gander Mountain about 10 min from us but we all know how Gander Mountain panned out. :( Problem now is nothing actually local.

I dont mind what they are doing here. I've seen it on certain popular ammo as well lately. Currently unavailable online. I don't blame them.

Keeps people from sitting at home and buying and reselling too. At least they have to get dressed and go to the store.

Picked up 2K SRPs at Academy this Morning for 49 bucks per K. Damn nice the old man is retired. They don't list what they have or allow online because they put them on the shelf and they are gone. Started to take them all but there was a guy waiting behind me so we split them and that emptied the shelf. I feel lucky cause I can use these as SPPs as well...

Yeah, the same primers we were paying $30 for a year ago. Cabela's was selling the Seller & Bellot primers at the time for $18 a thousand. Getting strange out there.

True but considering they are selling for over 200 per thousand on GB I'll take them. I just did not have many SRPs or SPPs because I did not need them but I picked up a .357 wheel gun recently and needed small. Had no problem finding brass, powder and bullets. Got plenty of Large rifle and pistol. It's gonna get stranger before it gets better I believe...

Oh absolutely. Today even at $40 a thousand it's considered a deal. Hard to believe $200 per thousand but there it is. I can't imagine $1000 for 5,000 primers.

Ron

Hard to imagine but I wouldn’t be completely surprised if we look back at these as the good old days.
Yeah and that scares the hell out of me. Not so much for me at 70 years old but for my grand kids and even my kids who will never know the freedoms we enjoyed. That is the damn sad part.

Ivan and Stanislov, two old men, meet in the park and talk about the good old days. Ivan says, “Well old friend, it does not seem our dreams of revolution have survived our years. We will never live in a true communist state.” “Yes,” says Stanislov, “but our grandchildren will. Our poor grandchildren...”

I know, I know. Someone around here said, “l wouldn’t give anything to be a year younger.” That sizes it up. I try not to dump on my adult sons and tell them how much it sucks and is getting worse because they have decades to go yet. And then I wonder if my parents felt the same way.

Actually, it’s seemed worse before....when I began my FBI career on July 9, 1972 (my wife June 1971) more than once, we were locked down inside the DOJ building because 100,000+ anti-war protesters were trying to break in—literally. Had they made it, bloodshed would’ve been considerable. Things looked really bad then, but we recovered, no?
