Dicks recently built a store in my area, and that was a big disappointment for me. Now I've heard that Dunhams is coming pretty soon. Don't know anything about them. Are they any good?

It was a complete downer when Cabela's built a store in my state. That meant that the state could now charge sales tax on catalog purchases because of the physical retail presence. Wonderful, that added 8+% to the cost of ordering from them. :fire:

IMO you DON'T want them to build a store in your state (if it has sales tax).

Just an update and a pic of the progress. This store is at 144th st and I-25, about ten minutes from where I live. Rumor has it this store and the one in Parker are set to open Aug 15th. Can't wait!!

While having a Cabelas store opening nearby is nothing to complain about I'm a little disappointed in their physical storefronts. You can find almost anything you could want online or in their catalogs but try to find it in their store and it isn't there.

Cabelas really shines as a mail order company and they also have great customer service and stand by their product; but I just don't find myself getting excited about visiting their store.

Oh yeah, and calling each employee an outfitter kinda ticks me off. An outfitter implies expertise, not just a smiling face.

No, I have not been to the Bass Pro. Yes, I have been to Cabelas in Scarborough. Frankly, Kittery is much better, and not as far. Kittery has the largest gun room in New England. Cabelas can't hold a candle to it, I don't even bother to go there. I only went a couple of years ago because they had 1860 Colts on sale. I usually get to Kittery a few times a year. Sometimes I'll make a special trip if I see they have something I am interested in on their used gun list. I have bought several guns there over the years. But it would have been nice to have a Cabelas in Hooksett, I drive there all the time to visit Riley's anyway.

Agreed. (emphasized bold type)

Online, Cabela's is always more expensive than BassPro for the same items. However, Cabela's has a MUCH larger selection. The sales people at the Orlando, Fla. BassPro store are not very knowledgeable.
The worst prices around here are at Gander Mountain. I almost buy exclusively online.

Will the one in Lone Tree be at or near the Park Meadows Mall? They've been talking about the one in Thornton for a long time, and it was put on hold a while back due to the economy. I was unaware there was going to be one in Lone Tree.

If you know the area, the Lone Tree store is located on the hillside above Sky Ridge Medical Center/Hospital, looking right down on the hospital. This is all just a mile or two south of Park Meadows. I live in Parker, and have been trying to get a job at the new Cabela's. It's only about 5-6 miles from my house.

They opened one a few months ago in Columbus, Ohio. That is about 100 miles south of me. However, had a grand kid birthday that weekend so it worked out. They also sent early open announcements to card holders where the night before the public opening the store was open for 4 hours for card holders.

Despite shortages the place was well stocked with ammunition and components. I managed a few pounds of powder, bullets and brass plus a few loading manuals. The place was a mob scene but all in all me, my wife and my brother had a good time. I ended up with two pounds of H4895 that I wanted and other loading components. So for someone wanting components and they don't mind a crowd, it can be a fun experience.

It'll be great til the new wears off. One came to Billings and I thought it would be the end of at least one or two other stores, Scheels and Big Bear and Shipton's Big R.
Only thing I like about them now is getting free in store pickup on a lot of the online sales of ammo, and firearms from different stores.
Just haven't been impressed with their selection or prices of shooting supplies (before the big rush or after)
