Cabelas Pistol Pickup is SO SLOW!

I think all Dicks stores stopped selling guns. When i got my gun there. It was back when they sold 10/22's for 200.00 around Christmas.
I thought they stopped selling guns years ago. They did here in Wisconsin. Just a Company decision, first not selling "Assault Rifles" and then no firearms. Maybe they started again but I won't buy from them.

Unfortunately my favorite LGS closed down a few months ago, and the closer LGS here is nice (lotsa stuff) but they have a few young-uns that have a bit of an ego/attitude charisma ( the elder statesmen are reasonably kool)...

The Cabela's here and the BassPro in the Bluffs are pretty decent if you know what salespeople to converse with, and the Scheel's has some pretty knowledgeable folks.

That said, I still really miss that LGS.....................I'm hoping to stumble across another small-ish one that's a reasonable distance from me............:)

LGS are the best! I seen were the old timers customs just walk right behind the counter and look at guns themselves. Gotta know, these shops would last if we don’t support them!

The Scheels here has never disappointed

I just picked up my Smith & Wesson 1905 third change 32–20. They scuff the bottom of the serial number on the butt so they can read the serial number better. I’m pretty angry about this! photos when I get back home I’m glad this gun was only $299. And not the thousands I usually spend on used guns. I don’t think I will be coming back to shop there
I think I would have asked to cancel the sale and get my money back and then got on the phone to BATFE. They might consider that a defaced serial number if it's bad enough.

it not defaced… but the 100+ year old patina is rubbed off. I’m over it.

I guess it depends on a lot of things. Week End, amount of customers in the store, time of day, etc. My Wife alerted me to a CZ P-10C at Cabela's on sale and I was back in my car with it in 20 minutes. It was a weekday.
This has been my experience as well. If it’s a weekend, forget it unless you have nothing planned for the day.

Ours is the same way. The worst experience i had was at Dicks.
...and yet they are still in business.

....and I'm guessing you will.

Those types of stores have a big turnover of sales folks, with little to no previous sales experience, not to mention no previous experience with firearms. Those stores and others like them make more money on women's clothes than they do firearms. Similar to most local grocery stores anymore. Used to be they cut their own meat and had a butcher on duty most of the day. Now, they buy boxed meat and have the high school kids put it in the coolers. Want custom meat, you have to find a butcher shop, and you pay for it. I remember the days when our local Gander Mountain had a certified gunsmith in house and you could trust them to put a scope on correctly. Ain't no such thing anymore.

Yep, don't like 'em, don't go there. But continue to patronize them and how they operate, and folks have no one to blame but themselves, especially those who have other options.

they do have nice used classic guns for very good price. But I have factor in the 4 hour total time of in-store (in-out)

they got a nice 36 no dash Snub for under $500 and 2 Colt Cobra for under $450! If it’s going to be 4 hours, it has to be 3-4 guns at once

Don’t know about your area, But the Washington Cabilas pick up is incredible SLOW! Been here for 20 mins and they processed 2 guns! 8 people back there.
Local Cabela’s has taken an hour before. If there’s one or two people in the process it can be longer. Its RIDICULOUS how long it takes and how many yahoos have to double and triple check everything.

In fact they often start the process and tell you to “go do some shopping” for an hour and they’ll page you when they’re ready to move on with the sale.

Cabalas needs DOGE!

A friend bought a gun at Cabela's and I went with him to pick it up. I don't remember why he bought it there, but it took about an hour to get out. He went with me to the FFL I use and it took about 7 minutes. He needs to find a Mich FFL that is like mine in Ohio, cheap ($25, and if I buy 2 guns, I only pay for one transfer), and quick!

It's not just Cabela's/BPS. Every big store is in the crosshairs of people looking to sue. They don't sue the small corner gun shops because there isn't any money there. But BPS, Walmart, and any other large store has money that they go after.

Any of the bigger stores are now double and triple checking everything by multiple managers. It's partly to prevent gun sales to people who can't legally own one and partly to show as evidence that they've done their due diligence if someone does something illegal with the gun.

Walmart wouldn't sell me a shotgun several years ago because they only had 2 of the 3 managers in the store that had to look over the paperwork. They did give me a $25 gift card that I used the next day to buy it.

Adventure Outdoors, the largest gun store in the world located just outside Atlanta was sued by the state of NY years ago because a high percentage of guns used in crime there originated from their store. They now do the same thing as part of the settlement. Walmart and BPS have been sued for similar reasons.

The stores don't like it any more than you and I do, but it's necessary. Yes, I'd rather buy from my local store where I can do the paperwork and be out in 5 minutes. But sometimes the big stores have what I want, and the local shop doesn't. If you go into it knowing what's going to happen and why it's not as bad.

Yep. And sometimes they make up a line of BS about "legality" when it's actually "store policy".

Bass Pro lost four figures from me by telling me they couldn't sell me an M&P-15 in Virginia (I'm a SC resident) because "it was against the law".

After I had waited a long time in a Christmas shopping crowd, told they had them in stock when I got up there, and was filling out the paperwork when a "manager" came up and told me that. In front of I don't know how many other people that day.

I didn't bother trying to clarify it, explain anything, or argue. Arguing with people in a gun store isn't on my list of accomplishments I want to check off. I left, took all the other money I was set to spend there with me and went to a local gun shop who also had what I wanted and their regular price was $20 below Bass Pro's sale price on the item I wanted, too.

Personally, I don't see any problem with a gun shop setting a store policy like that...just be up front about it and don't feed me a line of BS as if it's something beyond their control, or worse yet, try and make it look like a customer is trying to break the law. I get it that store policies may be established for their additional protection or whatnot.

Last summer I wanted a new Citori. Went to Cabela's twice to buy one. I waited for 15 minutes both times without any staff acknowledging that I was there waiting. No eye contact from anyone. I was wondering if I had suddenly become invisible. The weird thing was they weren't even busy. Maybe one or two other customers at the counter. They left also after a few minutes. Long story short I found a used CX for sale at my range and bought that. The last purchase I made at Cabela's took an hour and 20 minutes to do the transfer. While waiting the gun library door was locked during business hours. I asked about that and was told the dude that ran it wasn't available. ???

Only one other gun store in my area so I guess I'll just use them in the future.

Not to pick on Cabela's, the drug stores are the same way around here. Turnover is huge and they're chronically short staffed. A 6 business hour wait to fill a prescription is normal. Any order that comes in after noon is a next day afternoon pickup. That's for all four pharmacies.

moral of the story, try the Local Gun Store 1st and Cabelas when the DEAL ARE GOOD! And don’t go on the weekends or Friday or Payday or Tax refund week, or Christmas month! 😂

Big box stores are always like that. Like they've never done it before. One of my local gun shops, now that they're doing background checks electronically, they process that faster than my payment.

Unfortunately the big box stores have to cater to the lowest common denominator of employees while dotting the Is and crossing Ts for a heavy handed ATF. So they triple check everything. Also realize they are dealing with your average customer SMH.

Was picking up a suppressor the other day at local range, guy checking out misspelled the county on his 4473 even though there is the correct spelling taped to the monitor and the clerk pointed to it when he started the form.
