Cabelas Pistol Pickup is SO SLOW!

Four hours to buy, four more later to pick up. Won’t remove trigger locks to examine guns. Nope, done with them. They could give guns away and I still wouldn’t shop there anymore. Lacey, WA store.
The trigger lock thing is insanely DUMB! can’t feel the trigger anywhere in the store, so everyone is testing in the parking lot after you buy it. That’s not safe
 
Dunhams in my area beats all others in slowness. No joke, my feet hurt standing there so long waiting on paperwork last time I bought a gun there. Seemed I was standing for hours. I bet I had to sign at least a half dozen sheets of paper stating that after I paid Dunhams they were not responsible for that gun for any reason from that minute till the end of the world. Then, after the paperwork at the gun counter in the back of the store the clerk took the gun in hand and escorted me to the checkout on the other end of the building where she handed the gun to another clerk. After I paid, that clerk handed the gun to another cleak who escorted me out the door to the middle of the parking. Where that clerk finally handed me the gun and said I could not bring that gun back inside the store for any reason. I can go to the gun & pawn and be out the door in less than 30 minutes. And that's including time to swop some dirty gun jokes between customers and guys working the counter.
why do they even sell guns, profit margin in minimal and all that time cost money. I guest that why Dunhams is empty most the time

Don’t know about your area, But the Washington Cabilas pick up is incredible SLOW! Been here for 20 mins and they processed 2 guns! 8 people back there.

It's the same at most of the big box stores near me, unfortunately. I greatly prefer to buy at smaller gun shops when possible. I'd rather pay a little more and get good, fast service than be forced to spend more of my time waiting at one of the big box stores.
 
Ever since BPS bought Cabela's, Cabela's has suffered I've noticed. Their ammo is over priced and their used gun library has diminished a lot. There used to be a lot of nice classic rifles. Now all they have are a bunch of over priced M1 Garands, Carbines, M249S, and that's about it. Plus I'm not spending $50 for FFL fee

Do all Cabella's/Bass Pro charge $50 FFL transfer fees? I'm asking - it's been a long time since I bought a gun at Cabella's, and if they all charge $50 FFL transfer fees now, it's going to be a lot longer. ;)

I understand charging a transfer fee if they're just doing a transfer and not a sale. But if they're charging a transfer fee for EVERYTHING?

Nope.

Almost bought a pistol from them last year...if they're going to do that, I'm going elsewhere with my firearms business, even if it takes longer.
 
Your local LGS might sell 15 to 25 guns a week, as where the average BPS or Cabela's sells over 500 firearms over some weekends alone. Can't compare apples to oranges. When you process that many forms, mistakes can be made, mistakes on federal forms can and will cost you your firearms dealer license. When I go to buy from them, I go during the week and not on the weekend, it's nowhere near as bad. I'm a vender rep that's at their gun counters very often, sometimes for a few hours at a time.

I've seen people from out of state trying to buy firearms with an out of state ID, in Florida you must be a resident to purchase a handgun, and hotheads don't want to accept that. Some customers of theirs seem to not understand this and will stand there and argue the point with the clerk, while other customers wait patiently for their turn.

I've seen other customers throw a fit at the counter because their dumb ass didn't correct the address on their driver licenses, (or females not doing the name change when married) and yelling at the clerk over it. I've seen a lot more stupid **** but I'll keep it short. But spending a few hours at the gun shop in a Cabela's or BPS is like sitting at the boat ramp watching all the idiots that don't know what they're doing trying to get their boats in the water.

Just unbelievable crap like that is what causes them to go slow on forms and check and double check information customers give them. Personally, I couldn't work for them, I'd probably get fired the first day for not being able to accept that type of behavior and throwing their dumb asses out of the store.

Honestly, I don't know what has happened to the human animal. The ignorance, arrogance and rudeness now are just unbelievable. When I owned my firearms related business for 15 years, I found my firearms customers the most patriotic, polite, generous, knowledgeable and honorable people that I've ever dealt with. Now, it is no longer like that.

So, if I go to a BPS or Cabelas to purchase a firearm and its usually a BPS because I'm in Florida, I go early and I go on a weekday to do my business with them, I know that's the best time to go. If I don't like their service, I go somewhere else, they are not forcing me into the store at gun point and making me buy from them.

The transfer fee is if you say purchased a firearm online and had to sent over to them as the FFL. You do the 4473 there and then pay at checkout. DEGuns, just outside of Lincoln was like $30 or $35 and it being way closer than La Vista Cabela's, it made a lot more sense to drive there. Apparently Big Shots in Lincoln has like a $20 FFL transfer fee, but haven't been there yet. May try them next.

The only reason I even go to Cabela's now is if I'm headed out to either Kearney or have to make my way to Omaha and I stop their for fishing tackle. Scheels has a similar selection of ammo and it's cheaper than Cabela's buy like several dollars per box. But I've just mostly been ordering ammo from PSA and having it shipped to my home.

This. If any of the big box retailers pulled a Dick's and stopped selling all guns it would be an image nightmare for 2A people and, while buying guns at these stores is terrible, ammo isn't so bad. Drop all gun sales and you're likely to lose many customers for ammo and maybe other things.

Cabela's here sells more ammo, reloading supplies and gun magazines than guns. Being 4 miles from the CA State line helps. Lots of people looking at guns, not as many buyers
 
I have a BPS near me and a Cabela’s 44 miles northwest of me. I have a Cabela’s card. I use the card but rarely go to BPS or Cabela’s.
Time and time again I have gone to BPS to pickup reloading supplies the website says is in stock only to find that it’s not.
The clerks always say the same thing.
“Yeah, they don’t keep the inventory up to date. Can I help you with anything else?”
It must be a trained response.

I can see that. I think more store managers and corporate would prefer to sell more ammo and accessories, there's not much margin on firearms, but much more margin on the accessories.

No transfer fee on my recent purchase in NM. Only price of firearm and sales tax.

Yeah, like I said, it's been a long time since I purchased a gun at Cabella's/BP, but I have a feeling that's the way it is here too. Besides, the nearest Cabella's/BP is 90-95 miles from here, and there's a lot of gun stores/shops between here and there. ;)
 
I'll never buy a firearm from Cabelas ever again after my last experience. I had the clerk doing the 4473 argue with me that she was not required to input my UPIN and that she would not do so. I politely informed her that the NICS check would not go through without putting in my UPIN. Needless to say, I was denied because of her refusal to type in my UPIN.

I got a call the next day from the manager apologizing and told me that I could come pick up my firearm. I found out from the manager that they went through an ATF compliance check that morning and the ATF agent noticed that I did write my UPIN on the paper 4473 and that I should not have been denied.
