Caldwell shooting rests

They were all but giving away bald eagles for a while there. Over 300 original retail, I think they got down to 130 at one time on a thread here. Get a good rear bag and you are in business.

I sold a slightly used Lead Sled for $40 at a swap meet and was glad to get rid of it. Just didn't fit me well. i bought another brand similar to the LS and like it better. But, my first preference is sands bags and a rear rabbit ear bag. There is a vendor who always sells custom rests at the Tulsa Gun Show and I get tempted to buy one, but the price always discourages me.

The high retail price on the Bald Eagles was kind of a running gag. Sort of like sticker price on cars - nobody ever pays sticker price. The price was always there on the site, but there was really never a time in the last 8-10yrs where you could actually buy one for $300, they were always on sale for $199 for the steel models, and $140 for the aluminum’s. The only time I recall their site showing full price was when they were out of stock with no backorder option - meaning orders couldn’t be placed.

In any event, well worth the money spent, same or more could be spent on a worse or no better choice.

I believe you were part of that thread if I remember, but it has been a while. A number of us here bought them, and I don't remember anyone not being pleased.

They started out around the price you state, then kept dropping in price. I think I got mine for about 150.00, and I think they continued down to 140.00 or so before it was over.

I haven't regretted mine!

I have tried lead sleds and cant use them to save my life. I would rather take a pounding from a 3'' 12ga sabot slug and actually hit the paper then mess with those things. If they sat higher on the stock side they would be great but they sit too low for me so only 1/2 the stock pad hits my shoulder. I have the Caldwell rock pro or something like that and it works just fine for my amateur rifle shooting. I got that one cause it was like $50.

A friend let me have on a permanent loan one of the fancy Caldwell's Rock BR with all the bells and whistles. I am convinced it was designed by a person in China who had never seen a rifle. That's about me....not the rest.

After shoulder surgery, I coulden't take the recoil of my center fire rifles. A friend suggested a Caldwell Lead Sled. I seen some shooters using them from time to time and was offered a chance to try one out. I did and found it to be comfortable so I bought one. Ten years later and all healed up I still like the Lead Sled as a rifle rest !!!. hdbiker
