My huge question which is becoming more and more germane is "when does it become too much that people simply stop complying?"

What worries me is that a lot of silliness that starts in California seems to migrate east a few years later.

If/when AB1663 and other bills pass, there will be many law abiding gun owners who did not keep up with new state laws and may be surprised ... "What? What do you mean I have an unregistered assault weapon?"

Of course, like using cell phone while driving after the law passed, arguing with ignorance won't help avoid a ticket, in this case, confiscation of the firearm.

So, plan on registering qualifying assault weapons after January 1, 2017 or pursue move out of California.

As to those who still talk on the cell phones while driving, I am sure there will be many who won't care whether AB1663 passed or not.

Maybe I am missing something, but how will this not get litigated right up to the Supreme Court (presuming it passes)? How is this collection of garbage not a clear infringement on 2A rights?

In many ways, I want many of these ridiculous bills passed so legal challenges can be filed and sent up to the US supreme court and I posted:

Ain't gonna happen. In 2000, Californians who owned "assault weapons" were required to register them. Approximately 5-10% actually did.

For a few years I had no time for guns. When I got back into it, I realized that 3 of my firearms (those "assault rifles" banned based on features and not by model number) required bullet buttons to be legal. A fourth required me to swap-out its stripped lower receiver (it was banned by model number) and install a bullet button.

The big difference now is that MILLIONS of Californians own completely legal firearms that would become magically illegal with the passage of some legislation. Do you really think many will do what you suggest? I think most will ignore the latest bull manure.

What's really going to be entertaining is the MILLIONS MORE "assault rifles" that will legally flow into CA in the coming 18 months if the legislation does indeed become law.

We are one of the front lines is this battle. We need to Keep Clinton out of the white house. They will over reach here and perhaps we can advance the cause. You can watch the aspirations of the left here and see what they have planed for you.

We have many enemies in California. Boxer, Feinstein, Pelosi, Harris is hoping for a senate seat, Newsome will be running for Governor in 2018. It is time for the not liberal world to take back this state and country.

Guv. Jerry Brown has rejected some of these elements in the past. There is no guarantee he will sign anything and every thing the legislature sends his direction.

We need to send him letters.

The bills are very similar to the ballot proposition. Apparently this represents infighting among the Dems.

Just curious, is there even such a thing as a rifle without a detachable magazine?

Yes. Some rifles are made with internal box magazines.

There will be serious political fallout for enacting these pieces of legislation.

I would expect that some major makers would pull out of CA completely and refuse to bid LEO contracts. Unfortunately others will not and that will become an issue as some attempt to boycott them nationally.

The courts will get more than enough suits to overturn on Constitutional grounds.

The public who is most affected by their loss of the use of firearms will turn to other weapons. That happened in inner cities when the local jurisdictions outlawed automatic knives and they weren't available. The gangs started carrying small caliber firearms, and it only got worse. People will start arming themselves with other devices and it's going to be a hotbed for security sales.

Unfortunately, there will also be some who can't handle the situation and express their anger by acting it out in violence against those they feel are oppressing them. Expect MORE shootings which will only feed the antis who will say "We told you so." It will be ample evidence you can't stop a determined human from getting weapons but common sense isn't the coin of the realm in a state were everyone is a special snowflake deserving entitlement. What people forget is that the snow plows of progress push them all to the curb.

The improvement of 2A rights has been the trend for a long time - CA will not be able keep these laws on the books and it will be shown to be a disaster for the anti's.

I love the folks who think CA will simply "let them leave" when it gets too bad, as though their freedom of movement will not have been restricted long before then.

I wish Idaho would pass a law that only 2A friendly Californians are allowed to move here! Right now it seems most who come here are of the gun grabbing variety. They are shocked at the way we live here so they want to impose their draconian mindset.

Post number 27 above pretty much says it all. What happens in CA tend to migrate East. Many Californians move from there because they don't like it and then want to make where they moved to like California.

Sorry but you couldn't pay me to live in CA. And it's got very little to do with gun control.

It's like NYC - some people can't imagine not living in it, others can't imagine living there. From my perspective, it's a vibrant, unique, expensive, well used and poorly maintained trash container. In more ways than one. No offense :)

CA will surely go it's own way, as long as the 2A constitutional challenges are not successful. I highly doubt that this would result in less crime - just the opposite.

Look for mandatory buy-back, or some other name for confiscation, across all of California, within 2 years.

    And it will work.

Oh, yeah... nothing offensive in that statement.

I never could understand the bashing someone or something else for what seems to be the purpose of making ones self feel better or superior.
