California's Gun Laws -- 2003 edition

A little over a week from now the new gun laws kick in out in CA and I would like to know how many CA TFL members will stop buying handguns due to these new laws.

I for one have moved into the " I'll buy it if I like it" camp and do not intend to stop buying; it's counter-productive. Sacramento wants CA gun-owners to stop buying guns, it makes putting FFL dealers out of business that much easier. A new test (unless you're active or retired military), a thumbprint and a utility billl, BFD. All I need to find is a utility bill.

I bought right up to the 2002 limit and now that I'm there, I see a couple handguns on the other side of New Years that I would like to have. My wants take precedence over Sacramento's.

Good question. I doubt it. My military ID card excempts me from the test requirement, but not the thumbprint or proof of residency (utility bill) requirement. CCW's are fairly rare in most of the state though, so for the majority of potential buyers the question is moot.

It won't stop me. The only thing that may keep me from purchasing is lack of funding or mfgs not wanting to submit handguns for CA certification. (sure would like EAA to submit that IZH-35M, but they already said they don't have plans to)

I'll never stop buying. In 2003 I think I'll get a few more not to mention more rifles.
For all of you that have come to the conclusion that you won't buy anymore I urge you to buy. Don't let the liberal fascists in California have what they want.

Well, since I don't have a Ruger 45/.22 yet... or a good bolt rifle... or a 5" 1911... or.... I guess I'll keep buying.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm already on the state's master list of malcontents, plus they have enough copies of my fingerprints by now to wallpaper a housing project.

It's important to buy more firearms than ever before. (It's also more important than ever before to buy firearms.) Support the local dealers that are already struggling, and tweak the socialists who think they can disarm us. Plus you get a new gun to shoot. It's a win-win-win situation!

I'm still buying. It looks like I'll be getting about $650 dollars for Christmas, plus I have some paintball gear up for sale, so the real question is "WHAT will I be buying?"

To start off with, I'm debating between saving my pennies for an SVI, buying a new Glock 23 for CCW (which I will apply for now that I have the fingerprinting fee), or getting a Dillon XL650 and accessories. Then, of course, there's also the local range membership to consider.

Hrm... looks like I need more money already. As for the new laws... . They already know who I am...

Actually, my wife gives me grief, but it is all in fun. I won't be buying guns after the first. The last six months have drained the bank account. That's my story for now. No, I won't swear that I won't be buying more guns. OK, maybe.. Oh, I did buy her a nice ring for Christmas. I really did run out of guns to buy.. Ran out of guns to buy .. Ran out of guns to buy .. now repeated silently while awake.

At the beginning of this year I was firmly in the "won't buy" camp. Thanks to eloquent and logical arguments from the "buy anyway, don't let them win" camp over the last year, I'll be looking for a Dan Wesson Patriot when they pass the "safety" test.

I want every stinkin' politician in Sacramento to have confounded looks on their faces and walk up and down their hallowed halls saying, "But I don't understand this! They were supposed to STOP buying guns...."

Heck no, the new laws will not deter me.
I recently found an FFL in San Diego who does xfers
for cheap and am having too much fun ordering
guns off the Internet to stop now!

So the increased hassel is suppose to make us stop buying. HAH
Lets see another test, and a "saftey check" that is suppose to make sure that we are competent and safe with that particular firearm. Most of us of this forum could pass a test like that with in our sleep. Its more of a hassel of the gun shops to certify employees and themselves to give the tests.
