At the Indy-500 Gun & Knife show six years ago I bought four SKS carbines for $375. If you wonder which of your guns to retain or to sell any of yours, here are some valuable hints: look for Model 45 guns with the following details: Russian "TULA" mint mark in the bolt cover (may triple the $100-or-less price you paid); 2 cross-bolts in the stock: one in fore-grip, and a second right under your palm when you are firing; all furniture has matching grain and finish & same serial #, and all through-pins are brass, not steel. Also same ser. #on tool-kit, both pieces of the bolt, bayonet-shaft, gas-tube, trigger-group, magazine ( ten rounds: do NOT install a Flash Gordon ultra capacity "banana-clip" on an older original-type SKS unless you want to lose half the value of the original when you sell), a sling-mount in the stock that is set in to run parallel with the grain, not across it, or that has a hole that is puttied over (the early Mode; 45 guns in Russia had this parallel sling-mount design). Also, if you know how to look, check for a threaded-in barrel, and not a pinned-barrel. The "TULA" mint mark is rare on guns that are not Model 45. Other factories began later production models, and TULA changed to non-gun products, except for about 500 or 1000 guns. I have one of my four left, and sold the others for $700 each. The one I kept is worth well over $1000. I see some TULA guns occasionally at shows, and the prices are high if the seller knows what he's got. Keep looking and you'll find that cherry you want. its been a long time since ive bought one but remember about 15 years ago you could pick up the chinese sks at gun shows for around 50 bucks new in box, would have a hard time spending 300 for a sks, unless you are dead set on getting an sks as there is some that may be collectable but most aren't in my opinion, if your just looking for a shooter you could buy a saiga for around that price.
The Chinese SKS rifles seem to sell for $150-$250 in Oklahoma. Not nearly as prevelant at gunshows as they used to be though.
I had a guy give me an older, but new SKS complete with bayonet for free not too long back. I had done some work for him, and he had just came by and gave it to me not too long after he came and paid me for the work! He said he had bought it in the 1990's and never fired the damn thing.

I bought my Norinco in 1997 and got it for 125.00 new. Only catch no bayonet lug due to gun ban. That sucked and still sucks, I have been all over the net looking for a replacement front sight with the lug. Those are all gone - If it was me - I would not sell the gun at any price. You'll never get another one except for the Yugos.

I bought one of them norencos.back in the 80.I think i paid maybe 60 bucks,it came with a spike bayonet,oilier.cleanng kits,ammo pouch thingy.
I know i shot over 5000 rounds through it just as fast as i could,never had a issue with it,I have clips that someone was making up for them,they work well too..i put it in a folding plastic stock,makes for a nice shooter,

I don't know sks's but my local shop has a few at $165 they have grenade launcher attatchments and sights, I think they had bayonets as well but I might be wrong. They looked unfired with very light blond wood.
Looks nice, but did someone remove the bayonet?
For a long time (probably still the case) the Norinco versions of the SKS could not be imported with the bayonet attached because of some funky trade law with China. Go figure.
