The Senate Appropriations Committee adjourned today after taking-up the "Suspense File" of assembly bills.

Senate staff has confirmed that this was the last Senate Appropriations Committee hearing for this legislative session. Per Senate rules, these bills (and all others failing to pass out of committee) cannot be considered for the remainder of this legislative session.

However, we should continue to keep-up-the-pressure on the legislature, so they won't be inclined to grant special "rule waivers" that would allow special reconsideration of these failed legislative attempts. Continue to monitor legislative issues at http://nramemberscouncils.com/legs.shtml

The anti's do NOT want to mess with our gun rights until after the elections. They go on a long, paid vacation instead, lest their agenda hurt their candidates in November.

You know, it's funny, LAR-15, but five years ago, I would have said the same thing about Illinois. But somehow that perception has turned.
The gun-rights movement has managed to get a little bit of momentum going. It took a long time and it isn't always forward movement, but outside of inner Cook County, anti-gun legislators actually do give a thought to the opposition in most cases, now.
The steps were and are tiny, but they got made, and one little success begets the next.
Never would have thought it could happen.

We're trying, but it's hard. The fact that CA's budget is so disastrous any gun control effort that costs money to administer has a chance of being shot down, which helps. Plus the expected court cases tagging on any new legislation post-Heller, post-expected-incorporation will help dilute efforts.

While gun issues should not be a Democrat or Republican isssue - and in fact in CA we have quite a few pro-gun Democrats! - the problem is that for the past 15ish years the CA Republican party has been in decline, no matter what the fortunes of the national Republican party were. When that happens, the CA Dems as a whole shift further to the left. The CA Dems of the 1980s are a helluva lot different than the proliferating of Hard Left (Berkeleyite) CA of today.

The CA R's are dominated by the Orange county religionist types who appear willing to kill the party's future because of their continuing monomaniacal focus on issues of "choice", attacking gays (less publicly, but with codewords for "family values"), links with creationists, etc. About 10yrs ago they decided to play it safe and make some political tradeoffs for getting a minority share of 'safe seats'. These sentiments render the CA R's generally unelectable in CA except in their 'safe seats' (read: affirmative action for Republicans) - and the folks that voted in droves for Ronald Reagan (educated suburban homeowning professionals) have abandoned the Rs in CA since they're so scared of 'em they're willing to pay higher taxes by voting for CA Dems.

A perfect example is Dan Lungren, a so-called "Christian conservative" and former Calif AG who did more damage to CA gun rights than most any CA Democrats did. He'll get elected, like other similar ones, in his district but won't be able to achieve statewide office ever again.
