that's all, full size, steel, rail, 9mm. hopefully not super pricey. i have a witness that meets all the criteria except a rail, does anyone know if there is such an animal?

Only thing coming to mind straight off is SIG - tho not sure about rails on earlier ones if you bought used. For new probably too pricey for the category you want - IIRC my 226 ST was region of towards $800.

I carry 15+1 - so fair capacity - will take 20 rounders but of course they stick out. Forget what Glock has to offer - the 9mm capacity is great but forget whether any rail. Oh of course - you said steel - duh - sorry!

How about a CZ 75 SP-01. I believe it carries 18 in the magazine. Cost is in the mid $500.00 range. You should be able to get better info over on the CZ Forum.

I have been searching for the same mystery gun. So far I have come up with the Taurus PT92 and the CZ-p01. Sig and S&W would fit the criteria if the didn't cost so much.

CZ SP-01.

Cost? It's just money. ;)

BTW it has a capacity of 17+1 with Mec-Gar magazines, which still fit flush.

P-01 is the aluminum framed version and the SP-01 is the stell framed version. I've got an SP-01 and it is an amazing gun...

The SP01 is a steel frame...cost is in the high 500's maybe 600$. There arent that many in the country but more are coming in.
That and the Sig are your apparent choices.....I like the safety on the CZ and it comes with Trijicons installed already also........:D
Shoot well.

The CZ 75 SP01 Tactical is on my list near the top- it's pretty well the ultimate high-cap home defense gun, with 18+1. Just needs a Burris laser/light combo and some Hakan grips and you've got the handgun of my dreams, which I shall have soon, hopefully. Having said that, I'd also love to have a Sig 226 ST, definitely.

clark98ut,

Beautiful grips, but that gun desperately needs allen head grip screws.

good input, guys. thanks. i think the cz sp 101 sounds ideal. i like the witness i already have. i wonder if a 'smith could attach a rail? i know it wouldn't be pretty, but if it's do-able, it would definitely be cheaper. 'course buying the cz would give me an excuse to get another pistol and let me use those uber-cool 30 round mags.
