yeah its kinda neat lookin, I don't know if I'd wanna give up the option of a suppressor for one but its certainly worth consideration.

I've finally decided on my first rifle and i think I'll get me a bushmaster arc (magpul masada), and i'm just seein what kinda neat stuff i can put on it while i wait.

Yea, its not exactly a suppressor but at least you wouldn't see one on every AR :) Make sure to post pics of the progress once you get the rifle :)

starship troopers? not sure I follow :scrutiny:

nah I can't imagine myself going all that over kill.

probably just an 18 inch rifle with a bipod and a trinicon, it still nice to know what my options are though.

good point lol, I was gonna get a blade sling for the masada when I get my hands on both and came to the conclusion that first time a swing it onto my back some of those accessories for the side rails would be mighty painful

Looks like a cousin of the Bulgarian AK74, 4-piece flash suppressor.

RO, you need some answers, true, but you need more questions first.

Noveske, thats right. Bulgarian, redo? Yes...but there is alot more to the story.

What does it do and does it work?
Why does it look that way and why does it need to be so wide?
Why cant I see any of the typical flash hider / compensator ports?
Does it really mean no suppressor?
Why don't I see more of them?
Looks like it has a serial number, why?
    It looks heavy is it?
It looks adjustable or something, is it?
    What calibers are available?
Is there a down side to this unit?

The KX3 is truely interesting as it represents a breakthrough in the management of muzzle blast. It is particularly unique because it addressed a real world problem that confronts professional operators world wide. We read pages and pages of folks talking about CQB, they build rifles, they spend money and they never ever will have any reason what so ever to actually be in a CQB situation, if they did, they might use a KX3.

What does it do and does it work?
Its purpose is to redirect all the gases exiting the barrel and send it all forward. Why? to greatly limit the amount of side blast and deafing attributes of muzzle dbs directed back at the shooter and his/her team mates. The single largest disability claim by soldiers is.....deafness. This unit is best of short barreled rifles. The rifle seen in thsi thread is not a SBR and does not really need this unit. Muzzle fash is moderated, but folks, you dont need one of these to do that unless you have a short barreled rifle.

Why does it look that way and why does it need to be so wide?
The unit, made up of four (4) pieces has a gas dispersement/redirect element that captures the gases traveling behind the bullet and, instead of sending out sideways, it sends it forward traps it for a milisecond and then forces it follow back behind the escaping bullet again. The result is zero (none) reduction in noise (no suppression) but most of the noise head forward. It looks that way to allow the blast to be captured without blowing the unit off the barrel.

Why cant I see any of the typical flash hider / compensator ports?
Because that always, repeat always, send sound backwards.

Does it really mean no suppressor?
Only if you are completely confused and can't unthread the unit.

Why don't I see more of them?
You actually do see them, just not on ninja rifles. They prefer pointy sharp things with lots of neat holes and grooves and ridges and stuff.

Looks like it has a serial number, why?
They each have a serial number. They are not suppressors and they are not registered with any authority. They are somewhat expensive.

    It looks heavy is it?
Yes, they are made out of heavy machines steel and they take huge amounts of heat and abuse. It is not unusual to see old ones with considerable wear on the leading edge of the internal device. Wear does not hurt performance.

It looks adjustable or something, is it?
It is not adjustable, but it needs to be disassembled and cleaned out regularly. The wire lifts to allow the inner device to unscrewed.

    What calibers are available?
    .308
    .223

Is there a down side to this unit?
Yes, a number of them, for instance there is a significant increase in back pressure, they are also a bitch to quickly clean when the environment says hello. There are others as well.

semmerling, my question was more of a passing curiosity with no real want to get one. however I have to thank you for letting me know all this as there's never anything wrong with being better informed.

How exactly does it differ from the Bulgarian?

Does it function in the same manner with cone & trap area?

Simpler design than the Bulgarian, one less part (the Noveske's fourth part is the washer). Both get the job done.
