I have an older Taurus PT99 w/out the decocker.I need to put the hammer down by using the trigger. Can I carry w/ the hammer down? And if not why make it DA in the 1st place? For IDPA I usually go cocked and locked, which I prefer, but if I was to carry as my CCW(when my primary is not available)one handed access would be easier in DA mode.any thoughts???

Yeah, I've never understood a DA pistol w/o a decocker either. Maybe that's just a good excuse to start shopping for your carry gun! :D

And if not why make it DA in the 1st place?
no idea about your actual question, but for this one it would give you second strike capabilities in the event of a light strike....

DA without a decocker? Users of the CZ-75 (and clones) have been doing fine without one for 28 years.

but if I was to carry as my CCW(when my primary is not available)one handed access would be easier in DA mode.any thoughts???

Why is cocked and locked not one handed? Do you remove/activate the safety with your support hand? I don't know how one mode would be easier to operate one handed than the other.

Since it is DA w/manual safety, C&L or Hammer down is safe. If you don't feel confident in lowering the hammer safely 100% of the time, then carry C&L.

I guess I have short thumbs.(no jokes here ok)...I have arthriits so the only way I get the safety off is w/ off hand.In the event my off hand is engaged w/ fending off an attack I'd need to draw and fire DA.I guess if they made the gun DA they expect you can carry like that.

I also prefer to carry loaded hammer down, safety off.

The very heavy 12 lb DA pull helps prevent ND. No safety to flick off... come to think of it, it's the "no-brainer" CCW method. ;)

You can lower the hammer and carry cond 2, just make sure that when you pull the trigger to lower that hammer; as soon as you allow the hammer to move forward a hair, release the trigger. This puts the internal safeties in place in case your thumb slips off that hammer. Half cock will catch it.
