Does anyone know whether I can remove the light rail under a S&W 3953 or 4053 TSW pistol?

I am looking for one of these, and I don't know if the rail is a permanent attachment or can be easily removed.

    Thanks in advance,

    Sam

Yes, it can be removed. This is a separate piece of metal riveted on the frame. Removal involves drilling out the rivets. If you really want a professional look, you should tap the holes and fill them with screws blended to fit the contours of the frame. A little too much risk of mucking up a nice gun for my taste. S&W will do the work for you (last I heard). I've seen several that had it done. Looked better than the gun with the rails IMO. The newest rendition of the TSW series, the CHP 4006TSW, has a rail that's part of the frame. Only a few of these out there for sale and/or in private hands. Looks much better.
