Merry Christmas guys!

I am considering hitting the outdoor range tomorrow and shooting my colts that I haven't had out in probably a year or so.

I have probably half a box of hornady .454 lead balls that I pulled out of my black powder box and they're coated in a fined even coat of lead oxide.

Is it still safe to shoot these?

Ive shot some really corroded lead just try not to eat too much of the dust and after wash hands a little better than you would otherwise.

Better shoot early, major storms are going to cover most of Texas today. I'm headed out to the woods right now before the rain sets in.

Wash them off w/ plain old soapy water, then wash your hands again.
(They'd shoot just fine as-is, but that reduces the lead oxide exposure)

Unfortunately I had to hang it up before I even got started.

My local outdoor range (Elm Fork) is STILL underwater from the last flood. So no dice. Maybe in a couple of months.

That's a shame! It's been a drizzlin all day here on my property. I wanted to get my .54 caliber horse pistol out, but can't. :(

I hate the rain! I'd rather shoot in the snow or after a blanket of snow.

Heck, I wouldnt even mind shooting in the rain, but underwater is decidedly less preferrable.

I wouldn't mind either, but since using loose powder and having no cartridges prepared, I'm not so sure how the piece would fair under said atmospheric conditions.
