What is a good response to people whom say they don't vote or it is wasted beacuse "they are all crooked" or that voting for the lesser of two evils is a waste?

I know this has probably been discussed before but I would like some more ammo on the topic. I have atleast 3-4 people I work or deal with everyday that say they don't care or refuse to listen to my arguments about civic duty and working towards creating a change for the future even if it means voting for the lesser evil?

If all the people who don't vote because "their vote doesn't count" were to vote in the next election, it would be the single biggest voting bloc ever.

Hand them a ballot and say "Do me a favor... if you just don't care, take the 5 minutes and vote this way"

There isn't one. The majority of people are completely ignorant about political topics and vote based on soundbites cooked up by political spin doctors. So far as I'm concerned, we're better off with fewer voters, not more.

People who are at least marginally informed rarely stay home on election day.
 
I took a class from a political science professor who claimed not to vote, and who did research on voting trends.

People have to decide for themselves whether to vote. All you can do is make sure they're informed.
 
People who stay informed on the issues tend to vote. People who don't stay informed on the issues are more likely to be swayed by our overly liberal press.

I won't be encouraging those people to vote. If they feel the need to complain about politics while not voting, I just ignore them.

There it is. I can't imagine anyone who has ever visited a national cemetary failing to vote. Those guys did the hard part.

Actually the list is long on folks running, I'm voting but not for the above.

1- Well vote for a third party then that reflects your views. They won't get elected anytime soon on the national level but when they get large amounts of votes it will start to influence the major parties.

2-Point out that since only 50-60% of folks vote and it's getting worse annually.
Ask how long before only a few thousand votes elect-"choice of bad guys here" for president?

3-Point out since there are so many choices and if they don't vote or call/write/attempt to influence their party they are pedophile scum!

4-Ask how doe's it work in the country they are actually from?;)

5- Say, "Cool, when we have taken over I hope you will be one of my slaves as you don't seem a complaining type!";)

Less than 500 votes cast in Florida in 2000 decided the president. Votes do count. In Florida, they count and count and count....:)

Sorry, no.

Two considerations: 1)there are often no acceptable choices, and "none of the above" is never on the ballot. (Yeah, yeah, I know there's some state out west that has it, but if NOTA wins, the next runner up takes office.) 2)wrong is wrong, regardless of wether you voted or not.
 
Whether or not you vote, a government still gets elected.

Also, I'm amazed at how many people vote in the Federal elections, but can't be bothered with the state and local races. Not only do the officials at the local and state level have more direct impact on your day-to-day life, these elections are often decided by a handful of votes.

I also figure that if I don't vote, I have no right to complain about the government I get!

No, it should be fairly obvious that unless the vote is off by 2 or less, your vote won't make any difference. The supreme court decided the election, not any particular voter.
 
Technically, the supreme court decided not to allow the recounts to be performed using the guidelines made up in each individual county. Essentially, there would be no "interpreting" the voter's intent based on what the person "reading" the ballot thought. Gore's lawsuit wanted recounts only in selected counties, not the entire state. The supreme court ruled that one unconstitutional also. It's all or nothing. Florida election laws were followed exactly.
 
Because of the Florida fiasco, all votes are now important. In the future, anytime a vote is even remotely close, the media will be all over it. Every close election in the future will result in the losers spinning it and whinning about the winners cheating.
 
Right on, Standing Wolf ! I too was a dolt that never bothered to vote. I started voting in 1986 at the age of 32 and haven't stopped, I even vote in the primary elections. Jimmy (let's give away the Panama canal and pussyfoot with Iraq, etc.) Carter convinced me to be a republican.

while someone is at home sitting on theyre ass not taking things seriously someone is marching with a rifle waiting for the SHTF so that person back home doesnt have worry bout SHTF and dodge bullets,bombs or airplanes into skyscrapers.

you have rights and privileges, one is voting because people before them have sacrificed much.own limbs and life,family sons and daughters. money effects home and property.

not long ago in afganistan a group of people were slaughtered when they were heading back to their villiage. not because they rich or running drugs or weapons or supporting taliban/al queda or the coalition or wrong place wrong time. they died because they were crazy enough to register to vote for a coming election.
 
Funny

On the eve of the last Presidental election I called a friend in West Palm Beach FL and urged him to go vote Republican.

After having his tour in Iraq extended three times (Close to 2 years in a war zone) he is real angry and won't be voting for Bush or Kerry,he will just stay home.

Thats his opinion and he's earned the right to have it.

I'm gonna call him again though and ask him prettyplease vote for Bush!
(I'm just gonna wait untill he cools off for another month or 2)
