SANTA MONICA, Calif. — A car drove several blocks through a crowded farmers market Wednesday afternoon, killing six people and injuring 40 pedestrians, 10 critically.
The market is located near Santa Monica's famous Third Street pedestrian promenade.
Witness Rony Soussan told KCAL-TV the driver was speeding through the area.
"He just plowed through them like it was nothing," Soussan said.
More than a dozen fire trucks and ambulances massed and plastic tarps were laid out to provide treatment areas for the injured.
The Wednesday market occupies two blocks along Arizona Avenue in the oceanside city. It draws 9,000 shoppers.
A red car had damage to its front end and roof. What appeared to be several shoes were on its roof.
Crumpled boxes of produce lay smashed on the ground along the route of destruction.

I have always said that cars are a much more dangerous weapon than guns. Time to ban cars now?
This seems quite suspicious as the car went "several blocks" through the market. Anyone think it could be a terrorist attack? Seems to fit the low-tech, low-cost, high-impact terrorist M.O.
